    Help 50p Kew Gardens

I thought i would see if the forum could help out on this.

My wife has hinted that as part of her Christmas present she would like a 50p Kew Gardens circulated coin in mint condition

She collects coins and needs this for her collection.

As we all know these were limited in numbers and now sell for between £50 and £100 on ebay.

And therein lies the problem.I have no problems per se with ebay but many of the coins are turning out to be fake.

Can someone please recommend me a seller that is 100% genuine or point me in the direction of a coin dealer that you can recommend.

    Many thanks

    Mark

Pity about this as I had four or five. I think I accidentally used them for takeaways etc. I even kept 2 aside and somehow they got used :(

Google Chards, they deal in coins.

I have two that i've found. Taken a long time to find them.

As soon as you say what it is people think they have seen loads of them.

I used to own a retail shop and my Mrs collected loads from the till. Il ask her if we still have some which I'm certain we do and I'm sure I can send you one for a small forum charity donation... give me until this evening.

The coin was also part of a set for the year of issue. You might be able to pick up a year set.

    Chards is a good call.

They have started to vanish. I supply a mate with some of the potter coins and he is desperate for ducks.
I've got one for him at the minute and i think 8 for me ;)

Very interesting. I never knew that they were collectable.

You can't get that onto a 50p piece!

John Stephenson is reliable, he's on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/john8150_0

http://www.predecimal.com/ - Chris Perkins sells is reliable and also hosts a forum where you could make enquiries.

The offside rule is quite rare. Hold onto it.

    Help 50p Kew Gardens

To get a MINT 50p you probably need to buy a 2009 set.

It is relatively simple to tell a fake circulated coin from a genuine kew, even on eBay. Fake or copy kews have lines at 45degrees immediately to the left and right of the writing at the base of the pagoda whilst genuine ones don’t.

Circulated (not Mint) go for £70-£90 on eBay

A single mint (or brilliant uncirculated bunc) coin goes for double a circulated

Check with your other half if she wants a circulated or bunc. Overall they are still surprisingly common

Pm me if you want help
(My wife thinks I’m boring on this subject so at this point I’ll get my coat and leave to look at my selection of kews)

I've been holding out for a Kew to turn up in my change for ages in order to complete a collectors book for the kids....I just can't bring myself to pay circa £80-£100 on eBay for a 50p coin.

I sold one to a pal for £6 without research, so probably worth more!

On eBay they are listed at between £11 and £18. Not a bad return for a 50 pence coin you might get in your change.
