    Burnsey...

Steve cannot post on the forum. His recent sale will not be affected and the buyer will receive his purchase.

That may be because there are a number of IP addresses which he and Sarky have both posted from. Nobody else has posted from these IP addresses.

My view is that the only reason that anybody would want another forum ID is for nefarious purposes. Be this to troll, wind up, deceive or abuse.

Anybody who is found out should have all forum id's banned - permanently.

I understand you can have more than one of these IP addresses, but for my clarification is it a fact that you cannot ‘share’ one between two people?

Think it's okay if genuinely 2 people. There's a few married couples on here who may well be sharing IP addresses.

If you share an internet connection then you can share an IP address. So 2 people working in an office can share an IP address, however not 2 different people on different connections

  16. #16
    Thanks for the clarification.

So those here who had stated Sarky definitely wasn’t Burnsey were either assuming or he’d told them then?

Re sharing IP addy. Not entirely true. Both could be using the same (open) proxy(ies), but what are the chances? Browser and OS always leave a 'fingerprint' which websites backend s/w is able to log. It is also possible to track/ID a specific machine even if one would switch between browsers.. Just saying.

Very sad if true and totally unnecessary. Many have called for dual ID's to be banned and have been vociferous in their pursuit of those they suspect. Hmmm, interesting.

If I were to use two identities, I would use the pc on the fixed network for one and the mobile for the other. Pretty safe in terms of tracking....

I asked him direct if he was S and he denied it outright, with a little speech about how that kind of behaviour would be impossible for him, or something to that effect (sorry not good at remembering word for word) Thinking honesty was a big thing with him, I believed him, so have to hold my hands up and say, I was fooled.

This is true but unlikely. The most likely cause, other than them being the same person, is that they live in the same area and are both on a relatively small local ISP and not a major national like Virgin, Sky or BT.

Unless you are a business customer you very probably don't have one unique IP address. Rather you are allocated one by your ISP, from a pool that they own, for an indeterminate amount of time. How long this lease lasts is entirely up to the ISP. In some cases it can change in a matter of minutes, in other cases (such as the way Virgin used to do it, not sure if they still do) it is effectively permanent most of the time.

The fact that they are sharing several IPs does suggest that whatever ISP they are on is reallocating addresses fairly regularly, or that they are using a proxy/VPN. Anyone smart enough to use proxies for the specific purpose of hiding their identity is presumably smart enough not to use the same one for accounts they are trying to pretend are different people. Not necessarily though.

Of course, if one has the IP addresses in question it is a fairly simple matter to use a tool like https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo to find out if they belong to the same ISP and are located in roughly the same physical location (a proxy/VPN service will intentionally spread their IP addresses around different physical locations).

Most of the IP addresses they posted from didn't raise any flags but posts were made by both of them from half a dozen IP addresses which weren't their usual IP addresses. They were the only two on the entire forum posting from these IP addresses.

Can't believe this has got past Der Amf and Raffe
I had you guys on a pedestal as gold standard in the sleuth department.
A bit bizarre how Burnsey was nice to Raffe on WT yesterday but as Sarky he was at loggerheads.
Split personality maybe or just playing with us all .

Ahhhaha. First thing: Raffe is way out in front on his own.

I thought the whole bike episode was Sarky deliberately trying to fool people into confusing him with Burnsey. Since I'm now shown to be wrong about that, I wonder what that episode was about? Steve flirting with coming clean? But then what? I've no idea.

One thing I'm surprised at is someone who buys and sells privately very expensive watches muddying their reputation for honesty in the slightest. But this is just me trying to rationalise my naivety.

I was never convinced Sarky had access to BP anyway
If it is Steve, and he obviously didn't have access ,then maybe somebody was just keeping him in the loop as to what was happening.
i.e New guy Sarky bit of a controversial character and the regulars are guessing on a previous ID,some think it may even be you.
That would have given him the info he seemed to know about.
