    Lost my R plates today...

Bought my first Rolex today; a lovely Explorer. I'm over the moon with it. Anyway gratuitous first wear shot attached.

Very good choice. The pre 2016 Explorer 214270 was also my first one. It took me a few days to "get it" but once I did then I really came to appreciate it. I have since sold that on, also had and sold on the current Explorer and now have a 114270.

I have seen and tempted to get the new Explorer 1 2016 Basel new, never owned a Rolex. I was on the waiting list but came off when I got a pelegos last year.

Not sure why but I think the Explorer is the under the radar, anti bling and classic watch.

Hopefully someone else has bought it and it is no longer where I saw it.

Congratulations on acquiring your first Rolex

    And also upon your choice.

The Explorer is a cracking watch and a timeless classic (pun intended) and is also very much on my radar.

My first Rolex was a bi-metal Sub with blue dial. Sold that and got a Sea Dweller. But my under the radar daily is this. I love it’s simple lines.

Great choice. The explorer was my first super expensive watch. Still with me.

What made you ultimately choose that one or was it love at first sight.

I tried on loads; Milgauss, Explorer II, Submariner, Datejust and Explorer one in my local Goldsmiths, I only have around a 7.25" wrist and felt that less is more in terms of size, but after owning this for a month now I am loving it even more and finding I am wearing it almost every day. I could not be more chuffed with this. When I saw one come up on Sales Corner at a good price I pulled the trigger without hesitation.

As others have said, it will likely be the first of several and I do think at the opposite end of the spectrum I saw a lovely Sub 114060 (non date ceramic) and do rather fancy one of these too in the not too distant future, I know these aren't the purists choice of Sub but I did really like it.

I would say that at 39mm it wears really well, is classy and understated and to me is a perfect watch. If you even half fancy one I'd say to go for it.

    Merry Christmas all.
