I sort of agree with that which is a worry.

I have had an old man tell me my 16710 with a black and red bezel and Jubilee braclet is a "tad vulgar" and whilst you can say he should have kept his opinions to himself, it does indicate that Rolex are a visual magnet. The Daytona and Sub also attract glances and I hate it. Possibly time to sell the things off and use the money to buy PP's which are better watches and never attract attention.

In my heart I agree with you. I keep trying NATOs and others on Rolex but keep returning to the bracelets. However the others make a nice change for the summer months, and do make a Rolex much less Rolex-ey, if that is a word.

I'm happy changing straps frequently. It often results in little surprises that you can enjoy for a few days till the next change. Changing a look by this method is also much cheaper than buying yet another watch. Today's experiment on the Tudor heritage chrono for example. I don't think it should work but I kinda like it..... till the next strap change

Funny I’ve had old and new subs and never felt so much as a glance. I do feel a bit more self conscious with the DJ, for whatever reason. A quality nato would be a good way to tone down your 5 digits, tho it does of course make things more casual.

    Yup.. SHARK SKIN!

I trawled through my old emails there... and here's what Kerr Gibson said at the time I was ordering:

That particular strap was based off a Hirsch curved lug strap, they have a great insert to curve the straps with, unfortunately their Leather quality is very poor not much better than cheap Chinese rubbish.

I take their straps and rebuild them using premium leather, currently I only have a black shark hide or brown crocodile in stock that would be suitable for this build, the price would be around £65 for the shark or £105 for the crocodile, I would recommend the Shark.
... and here are the samples I was sent over email to choose from:

Fully agree but i do think it would be nice if Rolex offered more options.

My 42mm Polar would look great on my travels with a genuine Rolex Orange rubber.

Cheers, it's a combination that I'm very pleased with. The watch is an early 1950's J.W. Benson with 16j Smiths Movement, it has a similar dial pattern and movement to the well known 1953 Everest expedition Smiths watch worn by Sir Edmund Hillary.

The story of the rather splendid Donegal tweed straps is here, this one is a 'mid green salt & pepper': http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ed-straps-here

The only time I looked at a rolex and thought I like the look of that was a polar Explorer II on and orange isofrane strap. Looked rather nice in my eyes.

Flipping (ha) hell! V cool indeed, though I’d like to think the shark was already deed. Also, surprised he thinks Hirsch leather is cheap crap. I have my Speedy on a heritage and would never have thought that. Maybe it’s all relative.

Ordered a phenomenato for my 2254.50 when I bought the watch. Now that it’s here, I’m not sure which I prefer. Looks great but also surprised by how much I love the bracelet.

Cheers. The watch is a J.W. Benson with 16j Smiths Movement dating from the early '50s. It has a very similar dial pattern and movement to the 1953 Everest expedition Smiths watch worn by Sir Edmund Hillary.

The strap is a Donegal tweed 'mid green salt & pepper' made by Andrea at Martú. For details, see here: [url]http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?408460-Roll-up-roll-up-Get-your-Donegal-tweed-straps-here

Love the look on a leather NATO but it wears better on a thicker leather with deployant.

Zenith Elite 670 on a Phoenix Elite NATO.
The combo matches as well as the names.

This combo is the one that gets the most comments from non-WIS.
I see it as an unfashionable homage to Daniel Wellington

Completely different, but this is a perfect fit for me:

Black diver (SKX007) on a red strap: bold but still not too much.

My favourite combination is a black dial on a light tan strap, as I think the contrast really makes the watch face stand out. Few favourite examples:
