The NOT SO perfect strap - watch combination Thread (For Binsull)

Like many other TZ Members I purchase lots of straps to try with different watches.

I picked up a new Bremont strap for my Airco last night and it suits the watch IMO "perfectly".

Hoping this thread could be a future resource if members post pictures of what they consider the perfect strap for their watch.

So I will start with my Airco and new Bremont vintage strap.

This one was perfect combination - De Ville and old double ridged croc strap

This also wasn't bad - Hamilton and Steinhart strap.

I love this combo. Thanks to the OP.

Does anyone know where I can get the same strap in 23mm please? Preferably without breaking the bank, sub 50 squid please.

Just bought a NOS Oris Chrono XXL and reckon it will compliment it very well.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Thanks. The funny thing is it's an expensive watch with a glorious gorgeous mesh bracelet but the leather it's on cost £9.99. Just don't tell anyone

Great thread to follow - a well chosen strap makes a huge difference to a watch.

I love the Bremont combo in the first post, works really well.

I believe they're stitched by the hand of God.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

This one's an original V.B. Hygienique, not a Rev-O repro (for images open the link in Chrome with the 'Photobucket Hotlink Fix' extension).

Here's one from the Rev's first batch of re-made DEF-3/A.F.0210/Type 37 pattern straps, and rather good it is too.

Ah looks like I've missed the boat on the re-made versions and I either need to get very luck or have deep pockets (or both) if I want to source an original

    Thanks

Very nice indeed, is this an AF0210 strap? Or something else?

My favourite combination for the BBN - a JPM Italian vintage.

  23. #23
Like the Smiths, and the Bremont looks good, too. I prefer Bremonts on velcro, mind, and have a few I use for non-Bremont watches. They're well made.

I've a couple of Dirk Grandry straps for my PVD Panerai, and I feel they're a good suit.

I put my PO 8500 on a black/black Hirsch Leonardo for a recent holiday. I didn't do diver on leather but the Leonardo is virtually grain less and is water resistant also, I think it looks very good.

I like this combo very much, although she has been wearing the Aero classic rubber for a while now, will switch back in the spring.

Blue Toshi on my Glycine, although again, currently sporting the Glycine Airman bracelet.

I have tried a few leather straps and the OEM sail cloth that all were fine on the LLD, but never perfect. I also have tried lots of pull throughs, but it took me until a month ago to try a perlon... I had a feeling it might work and it really nails it! This is just a £6 job from Ebay and really does work a treat for me - the texture adds to it but doesn't add more clutter.

I think the new OEM mesh that now comes on the LLD probably makes it all seem to shiny!

What straps are people using on their Subs? Interested to see what works/doesn't, particularly on a LV.

    Cheers

Some of these look good but really not a fan of big gaps between the strap ends and the watch case.

Straps should be 'understated' and let the watch 'stand out'...... not the other way around.

As always opinions differ, my view is they should complement each other, so not necessarily understated, dependant on the watch.

I once had a watch which had a particularly shiny sunburst silver dial, complete with grooved subdial, surrounded by quite a thick bezel, the entire case polished. The whole effect was very eye-catching. A thick glossy oxblood strap, similarly characterful, complemented it perfectly, giving it balance a more typical strap couldn't have.

That is a Perlon strap. Vintage Eulit 'Panama' and modern 'Palma' are a lot more substantial than the 'Kristall' and modern 'Panama' weaves.

How do the buckles compare? Mine have all felt like ring tops off a can of juice.

On the modern version the buckle can’t be adjusted to shorten the strap, but the design is a lot more substantial than the vintage version which feels rather flimsy. Because the strap is threaded through the older style, the position that the tongue pierces the strap as it is done up can be varied which reduces damage due to repeated use. I’m not overly keen on the way that the tongue cuts through the weave on the buckle centre bar of the modern version, leaving frayed edges.
