32k :-(
Coinbase down ...
Is this it?
Crypto in general is absolutely tanking today, probably because I bought in last week!
If Raffe is in, you should be all filling your boots!
I'm seeing:
AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED
Don't worry, we've been notified about the issue and are taking a look. Please try again in a few minutes, or if the problem persists feel free to add a Bug Report. Sorry for the trouble!
... and have been for about 45 minutes ... there is going to be some serious complaining for some.
Ethereum has gone from £1300 to £1800 in minutes, great time if you have money and balls..
Pretty funny that the bum has fallen out of crypto off the back of a government banning it’s use. Wasn’t this part of the draw, untouchable etc?
Fair play to those in and out types who have the bottle for it and are making a few quid but not for me, happy to spectate.
I shorted LTC just before the drop and made £80k USD.
Heading towards 40k again, I’m back looking at Lambos
That was a crazy day, bigger dump than I was expecting - down to 30K and back up to 40K in one day - wild action even in BTC terms..
I just thought it tracked Bitcoin so I couldn't see it pumping like some of the others but had as much to fall as any other alt.
You short on Binance Futures.
No really sure about the fees because I usually do short high leverage trades.
This time I didn't have any stop profits or losses in place and it just dropped.

Bloody hell - that’s one hell of a trade!! Good job!!
Congrats on that trade!
Good morning.
Let that sink in:

It used to always be Binance that went offline during these massive moves....I think they've heavily invested in their bandwidth to try to stop it happening again. Seemed to have worked.
I've officially dipped my toe into crypto yesterday after watching from the fence for a while. Not put a huge amount in yet, literally a few hundred.
The shorting that was shown above, is that using the full fat version of Binance? Total newbie at this stuff hence only put a small amount in so far.
There appears to be large tranx happening on Bitfinex on Whale_Alert around the time of the claimed outage, and I know that Coinbase Pro was working for me all along, I was sitting at work watching the price crumble
I wasn't trying to place orders, but you can see all the orders and there will gazillions of them!
It would need someone with proper blockahain analysis to say for certain if the above is true, though the first thought that sprang to my mind was:
If I wanted to 'buy the dip' and all the exchanges but one had crashed, where would I go to buy it?
The one still up?
As I say though, needs more info to be verified one way or the other
Finally decided to have a try myself on Telcoin yesterday after massively missing the boat! I got a good entry point. The two IT guys I mentioned a few months back have made serious life changing money and cashed enough in to ensure that happens. They still have a serious amount in there and are confident of it rising higher. One thing with them is they don’t care about the daily swings and price moves.
This highlights my concern about cryptocurrency and decentralisation. It is basically the Wild West with Musk (and I’m sure others) and the crypto exchanges seemingly aiding (not manipulating, no) the market with impunity. One tweet here, Doge rockets, another tweet there, BTC tanks. GME hurting short traders, the platform goes down. BTC tanking, same thing for most online trading platforms.
There is an argument that it gives the little traders an opportunity to win, but at what cost? It seems no more free or fair than government and nation state backed currencies. I’m sure it’s here to stay, but who will ultimately benefit and to what purpose?
Now that blockchain can be hacked and manipulated the future looks inconclusive.
I know for certain that Coinbase and some others went down yesterday.
The point is that this was done to limit sells and then the mystery buyer propped up the prices with more fake Tethers to calm down the situation. Suppose everybody happy with the result, stable and higher prices. Trouble is, even more Tethers around and I still think that's what will bring the eventual collapse of it all.

Kudos to the brave souls willing to now take a punt and congrats to anyone making significant, lumpy sums. What a time to be alive.
It’s well beyond me but assume this isn’t helpful:

Amusing...
"Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each...
The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers; "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."
The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
They never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!
Now you have a better understanding of how the cryptocurrency market works."

Peak absurdity isn't it, we're already facing climate change/ environmental destruction and nonetheless the 'smart money' is excitedly wasting a mid size nations worth of energy, annually, on what is at best MAYBE a solution still looking for a problem OR a flat out ponzi scheme, you couldn't make it up.
