Such a cleverly written bitter, sweet comedy.

I wonder if they'll ever get that gold hoard that they always just manage to miss.....

Me too. We’ve even started a detectorists club in the village and a pre-requisite of membership is having watched series one and two!

    Are you Andy or Lance?

My nephew is into detecting in a big way and has been for years. He's found all manner of historical stuff.

On a slightly sad note it has been said that this series will be the last.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Youtube is pretty good. I bought a Garrett 400i mid range detector and it’s been good so far. I would also recommend joining a club or at least find a friend you can go with and also find somewhere you can legally go.

I am lucky as there are 3 or 4 in my village who were keen to give it a try after watching Detectorists. Been 3 times and already found a (possibly mediaeval) axe head and what looks like the remains of a Roman lead smelting operation.

Neilc I'm an Andy by name anyway...Detecting is a great hobby for anyone who's thinking of giving it a try,the hardest part is getting permissions..I started with a Garrett Ace300i with pro pointer, now upgraded to a XP Deus with MI6 pointer, which is all wireless and an amazing piece of kit.

The Christmas special is sometimes referred to as ''series 2 episode 7''.

Only just come to this and really like it so I binge watched Series 1. It's got that 'Last Of The Summer Wine' easy going innocence to it so I was gob smacked when (think it was) Toby Jones's character dropped the 'c-bomb'. I'm not upset or anything but it seemed very unusual for such a 'middle of the road' programme to go that far with the language. Inclusion of the c word also has commercial implications and would certainly bump it up an age rating for a dvd release (assuming they still release physical media still).

As a fellow metal detectorist you would be surprised how lifelike a lot of the characters are, some of the people you meet at rallies/digs and what goes on is just comical to say the least..

I saw this thread and was hoping for a new Christmas Special which I might have missed coming out.

Oh well, let's hope for a series 3. Such a terrific programme - genuinely a masterpiece.

Saw the op and was delighted; then noticed the date .... hopefully we will get more ...

Great observational comedy that translates to many men and their hobbies.

Like many it would appear i came to the thread hoping for good news, especially as I saw this a couple of days ago

    https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/613...rists-revival/

I'd hoped for something concrete, even if not for this Christmas.

If nothing else, surely filming something where the actors are 30m apart from each other in a field should be easy within COVID restrictions...

I've just binge watched all three series again, and the previous Christmas special. They are all currently available on iPlayer. Would be great if they made more.

Join a metal detecting club, some the antics on this series become quite real and sometimes real life is more funny than comedy!

I dont know what it is but detecting attracts strange people - like me!

    More info here: https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/news/685...rists-special/.

One of my favourite comedies. I particularly like the subtle, inside jokes, such as how Andy’s part time jobs always seem to mirror his hobby: headphones on, pushing something along the ground.
