Truly great news. I still wake up every morning to the Detectorist soundtrack by Johnny Flynn.

I love the subtlety in the writing and directing. I think it was in the first series, one of the visual gags was Andy always hunched over pushing something; he spends all day pushing a line marker along a road, or a weed killer, and then what does he do in his precious time off? He's in a field, hunched over a metal detector, "pushing" that along too. Genius!

I'm not upset or anything but it seemed very unusual for such a 'middle of the road' programme to go that far with the language. Inclusion of the c word also has commercial implications and would certainly bump it up an age rating for a dvd release (assuming they still release physical media still).
I have the three disk DVD set which is all 3 series plus the Xmas special. Got up from ebay for a tenner. It is rated 15.

Does anyone else think of Nick Drake when they hear it? Incredible likeness to both his voice and his music.

So good to have another episode. Makes me realise how much I miss it. Such a change of pace from so much other television. Such a slow and subtle show with great writing and cinematography. Superb.

    Very Nick Drake-ish Tone.

The guitar and pastoral type music.

Slightly disappointed by the lack of Aimee-Ffion Edwards, but I guess that was only to be expected

All three series are available on BBC Iplayer - it’s definitely worth working your way through all the episodes…

I can't quite describe how much I enjoy this pregramme. It's kinda like when the tranqs kick in (so I hear). Was the lack of Aimee-Ffion Edwards compensated for by the appearance of Dr Alice Roberts?

That means you have three series and a previous Christmas Special to watch. You lucky bastard. You lucky, lucky bastard.

It was mesmerising wasn’t it? Pace, timing and watching Lance’s antics with curiosity rising.

I've said before, detecting is just like this series, the people you meet, some of the things that happen on rallies and the joy of finding something worthwhile is so accurate to what us detectorists see and feel.

Its really well written and Mckenzie being a detectorist in real life is spoilt for ideas, he must read the forums and hang out at rallies so the material he comes up with is already there in front of him.

On top of that the filming is perfect, the nature, the feeling of calm, being out in a field with lots of space comes across so well, its a great hobby and the series shows it in good light.

Oh, and I have met the beautiful Dr Alice Roberts who is well thought of in the detecting world in more ways than one! Nothing to do with detecting unfortunately..

Makes you want to go and stand in a field.

Just watched this and it was by far the best thing on TV over Christmas in my eyes, murkywaters is correct, they have got the detecting details bang on.

Agreed the Christmas special , was just that AND they managed to introduce an edgy feel. Mckenzie certainly has some worry lines on his face though.

Finally got around to watching the Christmas special tonight.

Great scene setting and scripting with all of the original characters. It contains just enough dialogue to get the job done.

Watching this reminded me why I enjoyed the series so much but perverse as it sounds, I'd prefer if he never wrote any more Detectorists but just left on this high.
