    Rolex 5513 raffle

Some of you maybe aware of the rolex raffle and the generosity of Ally to put up a 5513 as the prize. Well I was the very lucky winner! Still couldn't believe I won it until it dropped on my doorstep this morning!

Some quick shots of the prize

Don't know much about the watch other than its serial number indicates it is 1978, and it's had dial change at some point in it's life. Going to do a bit of reading up on this timepiece before deciding what to do with it; For the time being it's being proudly worn.

    Ray

    Very well done.

I was devastated I missed out. It's my birth year and my 40th next year, so I thought it a good omen!!

Haha! The limited reading I have done so far would suggest it might be worth slightly more than that! 😀

Huge respect to Ally for his generosity, organising the raffle, ignoring a load of "helpful" suggestions on how to run it and for videoing the draw to ensure it was a transparent process.

Ray, make sure you buy a lottery ticket this weekend! :)

I believe it was bought from SC not that long ago so let's not forget the original seller

This was ultimately due to him offering up a watch to TZers for a very fair price.

Well done all around though. Fundraiser has benefited and someone has just grabbed a bargain!

Well done Ray. If you do decide you want to sell it why not raffle it again? If memory serves me correctly, Ally picked the watch up for £3,750 and raffled it to generate £5k, with the fundraiser benefiting to the tune of £1,250. You could do the same, generate the cash you deserve for being the owner, benefit the fundraiser and someone else gets a £50 Rolex. Hell the watch could be passed around like that for years.

However to echo what others have said, just enjoy the bloody thing

Can we have all the raffles and fundraisers announced somewhere on the website on the main page ? Like a banner that other websites have...

I always miss these things as the forum doesn't use the modern skins/updates/versions that other forums usually use..

It should benefit both the fundraiser or raffle and it'll get more people participating...

For what it's worth, this is how I look at it:

    - Ally sold the watch for what is was worth - no generosity on his part.
    - Every participant in the raffle bought overpriced tickets for the benefit of the fundraiser, knowing they would would overpay for the watch if they bought 100% of all tickets
    - Someone would be lucky enough to win the watch.

So the fundraiser contribution came in fact from all participants willing to buy tickets for more than they were worth, which included the person who eventually won the watch. Now I admit that most punters probably didn't look at it like that, a bit like in the Lotto were people buy overpriced chances to win a fat price. But it really is like that.

That someone had the good fortune of winning the watch doesn't really change anything about the above holding true. Obviously, if that person had any pride or decency, they would give something back to the forum fundraiser, especially as the watch has almost doubled in value since the auction. That they don't possess neither pride nor decency shouldn't surprise us, as that puts them in good company of all those forum members who are only here for a good deal on SC.

    Happy Easter
