    DJ II or DJ 41?

I quite fancy getting a Datejust, to cut a long story short, I can get a new DJ II (obviously now an old model) £1000. cheaper than the new DJ 41. Is there any obvious reason I should pay the extra for the new model?
I know there's a new movement but to be honest power reserve isn't really an issue for the length of time and occasions I'd be wearing a DJ.

The overall proportions of the 41 are far better in my opinion. Try both on and see what you think but i personally couldn't settle for the dj2 even with a £1000 discount.

I'm also interested in this question, could anyone explain what the main differences are between the two versions?

    Thanks

One looks clumsy, the other doesn't

I always felt the proportions of the DJ 2 looked out of balance and never warmed to it however, the 41 is a much better overall design. It looks like a more suitable successor to the original, but I still prefer the 36mm.

The DJ has much better proportions and looks right whilst the DJ2 looks clumsy. A side by side comparison will soon prove this.

Also I believe the DJ41 has an improved mechanism and it is certainly more sought after than the DJ2.

I went for the DJ II, blue dial. Very nice on the wrist imo.
Thanks for the help, always appreciated.

    DJ II or DJ 41?

There DJ41 with grey sunburst dial and fluted bezel is lovely, far nicer than the DJ2.

Not a fan of the WG fluted bezel to be honest, so for me it's not "far nicer".

Tried a 36mm S/S (with fluted bezel) and a Jubilee on at an AD earlier than the week.
Beautiful piece, felt quality and classy yet understated.
An absolute Classic, but after years of wearing 40mm Divers it just felt too small.
The larger models just didn't look right proportionally.

Got the DJ 41 and it's size and proportions are great I think. Definitely try one on before deciding.

Tried on both today and the DJ41 is definitely better proportioned. Don't know if it's because I usually wear slightly bigger watches but just didn't 'feel' it

The bezel is a bit thick on the dj2, but if going for smooth bezel that's better than the fluted which doesn't look good on dj2 imo

I tried the same too, and you're right, it is a classy watch.

But 36mm looked a tad small for me too, and I've not got big wrists.

I'd be interested in trying the 41mm as the DJ11 didn't do it for me either.

There's also a significant size difference between the two watches; the Datejust II measures 41.7 mm across the case, whereas the newer "41" version is actually 39.5 mm in diameter:

I'm obviously in the minority but I really like the DJ II, the larger case, wider bezel and thicker indices all make it a more modern version in my eyes.

My DJ41 on my 7 and a bit inch wrist. Just love the proportions of this watch especially the lug thickness.

Looks about 1.26mm too small to my eye :-)

If that's your preference then go for the DJ2, great to have the choice at the mo and you should get a cracking deal on old / outgoing stock.

    Happy watch shopping.

I had a DJ2 and it felt fine on me but when the DJ41 came out, even though it wore considerably smaller, I did feel the proportions were better and that is what I'd get now.

15% off list which works out at £960. less than the DJ 41, and as I say, in the metal I actually prefer the more modern proportions of the DJ II.
