    Sub....date or no date?

I've seen various YouTube reviews and online images of these two watches and simply flit from one to The other.
So, whilst I wait for my brain to decide I thought I'd ask a simple question.
Assuming of course you like Subs, which version would you go for?
Im talking about the 116610 ceramic date vs 114460 ceramic non date.
Im not really considering pre-ceramics now or alternatives so no point in including them so if you wouldn't mind keeping your answers to these two that will keep it simple.
Feel free to explain your reason/s or just post on the poll if you prefer but please post on the poll either way if you don't mind.
If you don't care or have a preference or hate Rolex then simply decline to comment or vote, that's fine.
    So, date or no date?

114060 gets my vote. Unless you're looking at the green 116610 in which case that's the winner.

If it is black, 114060 wins for me because it's the modern day version of the original classic. James Bond (Connory) style.

Also, I just like the clean looking dial and it seems better balanced to me. Also a bit less commonly seen.

Either way, you can't go wrong IMO.

Date for me. I need the functionality plus love the cyclops and to me it is an iconic part of the Rolex design.

I have an 114060. No objection to having the date on a watch but I do object to the cyclops.

I went for the no date, as I already had a Steinhart GMT with a date/Cyclops and craved the symmetry and simplicitry of a non date

I would absolutely go with the date version. As far as I am concerned, a date with cyclops is part of the Rolex look. I've always felt the ND version was lacking in comparison, as the dial looks to be missing something.

Completely a personal preference and you should really consider what suits you best.

I prefer symmetry on my dials and rarely use the date functions on the watches that I currently have so I'd go with a 114060.

Don't have a sub, but have a black bay (no date). No date adds symmetry as others have said, and is great when you're winding the watch up for one evening only and don't want to faff around with setting the date. Yes, you can wear a watch without setting the date, but that would make my normally mild OCD scream.

Non date ceramic 114060 for me. Love the symmetry and hate the cyclops.

Must be personal preference of course.

date for me (even though mine isn't often set correctly!) - cyclops is all part of the Rolex design to me.

  17. #17
114060 for me. I prefer the balance of the dial, tend not to forget what date it is, less popular with Joe Public than the date version and the lack of the date window and cyclops makes it look less like a Rolex than models with a cyclops.

Deffo date if regular wearer. No date otherwise. In fact, no date looks cleaner get that one. Wait, the date is more "Rolex"......

Assuming purchasing new, £700 for a "date" seems excessive

If you want a date function but don't like the cyclops there is the option of swapping the crystal for a plain one.

    Date for me.

I simply can't wear a watch without a date window as I seem to refer to that as much as the time. I've tried, but sold the two watches without dates I've owned within days of purchase.

I agree that a non date dial is better balanced (if the window isn't at 12 or 6), but the functionality is too important to me personally.

All boils down to the cyclops / no cyclops issue. Personally I hate them, so the no date for me. Also, the no date is the true Submariner with the date function added much later.

No date ...im wearing my 14060m at bournemouth and if for some reason I need to know the date it's on the top of my Samsung s8 I'm answering on.

I bought a no date last year and although I love it it has hardly been worn because it is too small for my large wrist so will be getting sold when I get round to it. I am not fussed about a date but both my SD43 and Deepsea Blue have dates. The SD 43 is the almost perfect watch for me and it hasn't been off my wrist since I got it but I would prefer it not to have a cyclops and if it didn't have a date that wouldn't bother me at all. My phone has a the date on the screen, even my car has the bloody date on the clock, built in sat nav and the instrument panel. Overkill methinks.

No date sub gets my vote.

I think the date is a very useful complication and that the cyclops makes the watch stand out as a Rolex.

I appreciate people talk about 'balance' of the watch face but I cant relate to that.

There is not right (or wrong) answer. If you need a date, then get a date, if not don't

i have two non-dates and one date. The latter gets worn more often.

Of the two - the ND is cleaner.

But....... they are both fat, out of proportion watches.

Get the previous classic shape NonDate, second hand.

Save a bundle and find inner peace.

    Apologies Mr Peel,

Some of us have read the same thread under different titles way too many times, its pretty dull when its from a newbie, but when its from a long time member its very wearing, however I'll drop out as folk seem to like saying the same stuff every week.

Despite having a 114060 for nearly 4 years now, I still find myself looking at my wrist for the date: it is too ingrained a habit. I can certainly relate to those deem it an essential feature.

I used to hate the cyclops lens but I don't mind it anymore, and if people want the iconic Rolex 'look' then fair enough.

All that said, the No-Date is the archetypal Rolex dive watch for me. Pure. Clean. Original. Everything that came after: the Sub-Date, SD, Deepsea, SD43 are all derivatives.

Besides, nobody needs to know the date when diving afterall!

Cynicism I can handle and yes these things can sometimes be repetitive but it's a Watch forum and there's not much that hasn't been discussed before really.
However the snipey comments were both unnecessary and undeserved, however apology accepted and I likewise apologise for my insult.

One more vote for the 114060, but I have little sympathy for the suggestion that setting the date on the 116610 is too much hassle if you rotate your watches. Quickest date is a breeze, try a 1675 or a 1680 if you want date-setting hassle.

I can't remember from when I last had a Sub date as it was years ago.
Do you still have to avoid quick setting the date between certain times?
I seem to recall its not good for some movements?
