We do bridges rather well us Brits. Long way for you to drive
Absolutely stunning and world beating British engineering.
What a light show too..!!
I can't wait to drive over it.

It's been great watching it being built.
The 3 bridges together look splendid at night.
Have heard rumours of inferior quality Chinese steel being used !!!
Does look good though.

Yea had a close up last week, looks magnificent!
I have to buy a car in Aberdeen in Thursday so will be heading south over the thing, fingers crossed ......
Even though I'm Scottish I'm well out if the loop on this. Was the older road bridge not up to the mark ? . Not enough capacity ?
The steel in the suspension ropes is snapping and expansion joints are failing. They have fitted listening devices and can detect the "Twang" when another cable goes!

Have a few friends who won tickets in the raffle to walk over it in the next day or 2
As someone whose career has been in the bridge design field it's always good to see people recognising an excellent piece of engineering.
I note they didn't get the Queen to open it. It had to be the Fish Lady.
Not 'cable' which implies a complete 'wire rope' or 'bundle', and is a bit melodramatic.
a 'strand' in a bundle of strands is what is failing. Several 'strands' have now parted.
The original bridge is also severely limited in it's modern day throughput of traffic- with more people commuting to Edinburgh and the increase in road freight - and - high cross winds.
The new bridge is supposed to be much safer for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles in the event of high winds.
Can't help but think that the increase in flow rate over the two bridges, will simply create a bottleneck closer to the Edinburgh bypass/city.
First minister of Scotland does the unofficial opening of a Scottish bridge to let the locals test and walk over it prior to official opening. Shock horror.
Note The Queen is opening it officially on 4th September to coincide with the 53rd anniversary of her opening the forth road bridge.
Delays of over an hour in both directions at rush hour this morning as thousands of idiots wanted to be amongst the first to cross it. Do I leave now for the trip that usually takes me 20 minutes but I don't need to make for another 2 hours?
And it's already had it's first breakdown.
Business as usual over the forth then!
Took about an hour to do that 20 minute drive, traffic is ridiculous. They're having a laugh saying it's finished, the road leading to the bridge hasn't even got road markings yet!
On the plus side, the surface is nice and smooth, a far cry from the suspension-wrecking bumps on that other crap bridge. The wind shields aren't OTT, still allow a good view and a nice open feel, far more so than the old bridge.
Thumbs up for when the bloody tourists stop using a motorway as a sight-seeing opportunity.
The Forth Road Bridge is now back open and Queensferry Crossing closed
I went over it yesterday morning, no hold ups at all and much smoother than the old one.
