Thread: A good plate ...

Spacing looks okay to me. Great gift. I assume the GC is your initials?

It's T12 OGC, so not okay as far as the law goes, but see how you get on.

Yes GC initials. As McD says not correct spacing but I’m hoping it won’t attract too much attention.

As it's full size (even if not correctly spaced, no BS mark and no makers mark...) you'll probably be ok.

A local traffic cop once said that they tend to ignore any one of speed (within reason), noise and plate, but if you have combination of 2 or more you'll likely be pulled over.

That’s good to know, the Remus exhausts with the baffles out are pretty nice sounding but not obnoxious… I think.

Life is too short to ride with your baffles in.

Always. When I sold the last bike it took me two weeks to find the baffles, thought I'd binned them.

My bad, I missed the word ‘to’ in that sentence.

It would have been TO05 LOW but either way it doesn’t appear to be on a car

Seen on a modified Seat Leon recently (on a motorbike plate):

    W7
    NKR

I only hope that it is somehow ironic…

this was back in the ‘80s so in the date suffix era. W would have been 1980/81. Was an old Countach he was having issues with.

this wasn’t the picture I was thinking of but show what I meant….

Edit:- Seems it was sold in 2020 for £13,300.
Was on Lamborghini Countach chassis 1121320 while in the ownership of Tim Dutton-Wooley. This pic was on a magazine cover.

Range Rover Evoque in front of me at the lights today JO0 5PAN, obviously before altering the spacing it was JO05 PAN. And the name Jo Spanwick printed where a dealer name normally is. When the spacing is altered, numbers used as letters, and THEN it still needs to be explained, then things have got rather desperate.

Had no intention of buying this as was looking for another to match my initials but could not resist:

Just bought vehicle registration L31YCA direct from DVLA

Will have to find a plate maker who can tweak it to: LƎI YCA

Not perfect but near enough. And was not expensive – in fact was their standard? £250 price

    I'm a LEICA enthusiast

I'd keep it as is - if you know you'll know, no illegal fonts required.

If you have to spell it out or mess around with the spacing then we have another thread for that.

    Best plate I ever saw…

… was FAL 1C on a navy blue Rolls Shadow II spotted on Knightsbridge. It was John Entwhistle’s car (from The Who).

Today received a full refund from DVLA i.r.o. the "personalised vehicle registration purchased in error"

The old adage: 'Seemed like a good idea at the time' applies.

I’m not sure about that but Steve Parish had PEN1S on a Mercedes SL500 back in the eighties.

I thought that there was a famous picture of Fiona Richmond sitting on the bonnet of a car bearing that reg. no..

Turns out I was wrong & it's actually this -

The plate was owned by Paul Raymond at the time.

(Younger readers may require to Google Fiona & Paul. It's probably NSFW.)

Looking at the DVLA site for plates available to buy now, all the WExx ONS plates are between £250 and £699

WE11 xxx plates go from £399 to £1799 for some reason, though the vast majority of them are £399

Unless there's something special about WE11 ONS that I can't spot, I'd suggest at most it's worth £80 less than the original purchase price (whatever that was) as there's no shortage of either We11 or ONS plates available

Just saw W1NCH on the M1 this morning.

Was not on any 4x4, or overtly company vehicle, which I felt was a shame
