Well, if you call that personalised - then they do exist. But they are not owned by the owner of the car and cannot be sold/traded. It's more that you can pick any free number out of the database and then you get to keep it as long as you own the car.

Brabus do it too, starting BOT* followed by model-relevant letters.

BOT stands for the city of Bottrop (close to Essen and Dortmund), you can reserve your number out of their database here (click on the data protection box and then you get to chose your plate next step). The process is more or less the same for all cities.

They have a similar system in Australia where you pick what you want but the less letters/numbers the more it costs and I think you then have to pay a fee every year if you want to keep it.

It is kinda mad that we Brits pay pretty big bucks for plates, but end of the day they're a tradeable commodity so it's not usually cash down the toilet. Quite the opposite for the dateless ones which should be a decent investment, certainly prices have risen considerably in the last 30 or so years since DVLA started selling them.

A mate of mine in Calgary has three letters and zero numbers on his plate, a few years ago cost him pennies like just £50* to the dept of vehicles. Seems to not be a big thing over there!

    *edit
Current one-off fee is around CAD$200/GBP£120

Just took the dog out for a walk and saw an old KA with the registration N14MH D. It must belong to our old paper girl, Niamh Dennis. I know, I know, incorrectly spaced so it don’t count! Next street, an Audi OO6 1AN C. I know, I know......

This reminds me of a Range Rover I passed a while ago , big old wheels, blacked out windows and a registration number "SPL 1 F " , now seems to be on a 448 Spider , so things must be looking up !!

There are no personal plates in Norway but Edinburgh has some crackers. I love V10 LET, used to be S1 on an old 3 series. JWS 1 on a Landie.

The plate isn't the best thing in that photo, just look at the website address! Saw a similar one in Edinburgh over New Year and had to take a second look just to check...

Saw this one, walking to the pub last night.

It’s says what it’s meant to without miss spacing etc. Bet it cost a few quid though.

Not a fan of personal plates myself, but I can never see why something very distinctive would be a problem from identification purposes.

I guess it's to do with APN recognition?

I’ve seen that on the A50 in Derbyshire a few times on my daily commute. It’s sounds incredible.

TBH I hadn’t noticed the F and screw so you’re right, it is a little tragic but, had it been a P, illegal spacing or not, I’d still consider it a good plate

Might as well just have it printed as WASPY then. Definitely not a good plate unless they’re now called WASFS
