I saw 1 KO (I think it was) on a Phantom yesterday - I think it's Chris Eubank's car. that was quite classy.

In a local garage yesterday, on a LWB Maybach was L1.

No idea who owns it, but must be quite expensive?

Saw EGO 70Y on a 595 Abarth yesterday, cool little cars though couldn't help but think it was more a supercar 'plate than supermini.

Single single number plates are £250k+. Possibly more.

I remember seeing a single single plate on a tired Vauxhall Astra.

I'm a bit naive with these things and don't wish to derail the thread but can someone educate me, please?

I get emails from the DVLA for registration auctions and when I do a DVLA check, the reg isn't known. Why is this?

Wow!! That plate would probably be worth £100k. I like that it’s in a little car lol

Anyone know what the situation is with plates like this, which have a high 'value' - and insurance of the car?

I'm guessing that the owners have the plate insured separately (to avoid the loss in event of a crashed or stolen car), But I wonder how many owners do that?

Anyone here have their expensive plate insured, or know for sure if required/desired?

Never previously issued is the main reason...some have been previously issued many years ago but the owner has let it expire on a retention certificate so it goes back to the DVLA

No need to insure the plate.

Just make sure you put it back in retention before a car is officially written off or marked stolen/missing.

You can put your own plate into retention instantly on your phone at any time of day or night.

If you forgot to do this and your car was written off, I think you could still apply to DVLA to have it back. I can’t imagine them saying no.

If you’ve not put the plate on retention and the car is written you’ll have a hard time getting the DVLA to give the plate back to you.

This happened to a work colleague and he spent months talking to various people at the DVLA and in the end had to concede. Worst thing is “his” plate was purchased by someone local so he now regularly sees the plate on another car.

I had NSX 18P on a Honda NSX that was stolen and never recovered. The DVLA told me I had to wait for a certain time to elapse (can’t remember how long it was) in case it showed up. The car never did but I eventually got the plate back.

Saw YET 1 on a Skoda Yeti recently.

Can’t get much better than that IMO

It’s a shame Skoda have stopped making the Yeti. It is quite a quirky looking but cool car.

Cant quite work out what this plate genuinely is tbh (apart from obviously meaning to be ‘A road’!) - is it AR 04 D or ARO 4 D? I suspect it can only be the latter which is quite an old plate.

ARO 4D would have been the only one released by DVLA

I have always liked a plate and enjoy spotting the good ones. However I am 8 pages into that auction and can’t believe that some of them are for sale. Can’t work out why anyone would want most of them…..

I saw ‘71 TR’ on a stunning looking blue Ferrari 488 Spider yesterday.
No photo unfortunately as it was following me in a line of traffic for a while before turning off.

A couple seen earlier today on my walks around the city. The first is on a Porsche parked outside a doctors surgery, the other is a knockout of a 'plate parked outside a London hotel.

The latter has recently failed its MOT for the terrible spacing

So it did! I wouldn't have wanted to tell him it had failed...

As an iside, I'm not a fan of illegally spaced plates. No issue at all with private/personal plates though illegal is taking the p in my opinion.
