    It’s a thread about numberplates, isn’t it?

(Rather than a thread about political sloganeering on the back of vans…)

I remember PJ O'Rourke observing in one of his books that 'bumper stickers' are the closest Americans get to political dialogue.

Is that even legal - will an automatic system easily pick the real one amongst a couple of lookalikes?

Not quite a plate, but spotted this while away.

Not a tour I particularly want to go on.

At a Ferrari day at my local race corrupt recently, so many cars-well most- illegal plates, incorrect fitment on vehicle if there was a front plate at all, couple of traffic cops in for a nose round showing no interest in them, easy ticket quota for them that day if they could have been bothered, I wouldn’t normally care but one of them pulled me previously because my plates were in slightly smaller motorcycle font, gave me 5 days to change them, and he turned up to check! at least mine readable by the cameras, as a speeding ticket proved.

The police can’t do anything if they’re not on public roads; the best they could hope for would be to wait outside the gates and pull one or two.

If a car is on private land, it doesn’t need a number plate.

Was out on Sunday and saw a huge number of Porsches out and about in the Cotswolds, many with expensive looking plates, but the one that stood out for me on my trip was on a Land Rover Defender.

    8 OYO

    Owned, possibly, by a Welshman.

I did get overtaken by another car with the registration

    OBO

I can't think of any combination where this could be a valid reg, nor can I think of any valid reg that could be mis-spaced to look like this.

    More spacing naughtiness..

The letter 'O' followed by eight and zero brings up a Toyota GR Yaris Circuit edition.

Never understood the need for the Porsche sticker along the side, if someone doesn’t know what it is they probably don’t care.

It's a legacy from the 1960's, copied from Ford's GT40 side stripes. I think Porsche first used it on the 917.
