Shouldn’t be silver on black - car is too new for that. Great number though.

Funny, I always thought a good plate was something like this:

A nice website to have a look at, anyway.
I have lobbied the owners of Frodshams to do a range of posters for their double impulse mechanism.

With the change in eligibility for silver on black plates to any vehicle produced before January 1980 this vehicles is correctly displayed as it was first registered in 1978.

Strange that these days a raised 4D plate is considered the hallmark of a chav!

^^^ After a little googling I've found they were called "Peak" plates back in the day (which is what I now remember) and were manufactured by Ace or Jepson.

Chatting this morning with a guy who has BU11LD J on a Defender. Says he saw it advertised on eBay for £1000 but bought it from DVLA for £250.

That I didn’t know. I didn’t realise it had changed from the 1973 cut off but a quick Google gives info that if you apply to the DVLA and register as historic vehicle tax class it is indeed Jan 1980.

Cheers, every day is a school day but still doesn’t allow a local black Lambo to use them :-)

Lucky man I’ve still to see it. When they announced it I was a bit dubious however seems like they’ve pulled it off!

I had a rep in trying to sell me equipment to make ‘4d’ number plates, I asked him” isn’t the 4th dimension time, don’t sell many DeLoreans” went right over his head, didn’t buy anyway, time spent making standard plates too long already.

Should have put it in the auction where 6SJ sold for three times that amount.

Apparently there are an infinite number of dimensions but we only live in three of them, and time isn’t really a dimension as we can only move in one direction.

    Or so I’ve heard.

Na. Time is a dimension - nothing physical can exist without it. It all gets a bit fuzzy at the quantum level, where time reversal symmetry may be possible.

I suppose that makes describing raised plates as 4d more accurate than describing them as 3D.

No point starting a new thread for this, but surely the way this plate is cut is illegal?

    No, that’s fine. https://www.bespoke-plates.co.uk/blo...s-legal-in-uk/

Daft imo but some people like them - would look far better matching the shape of the recess.

The raised letters on those number plates have height, width, and being raised give them depth? Isn’t that 3D?

Merely a fancy excuse to charge more in my book.

True, but when you consider time as a dimension, then that’s the fourth dimension.

They have loads of those plates on different work lorry’s and vans. UK3 UK7 etc

Guy who owns the company has a previously famous gangster brother, victor dark, with quite a funny Danny Dyer hard man episode.

No, not necessarily; if time is a dimension then they have length, width, height and time so four dimensions.

If they didn’t have time, they wouldn’t exist in our perception. I would say universe but would probably be wrong.

So, when distinguishing between a flat sheet and a plate with raised figures you simply say, these are both 4D objects? I see your point, but it's not particularly useful achieving the aim of distinguishing between them.

    Price List

    4D number plate £10
    4D number plate £25

Absolutely, we all know and understand the accepted definitions of 1d, 2d and 3D, I was just furthering an earlier discussion about whether time is a dimension or not.

I personally think anyone describing a 3D number plate as 4d is a bit desperate. How does it differ from a 3D plate?
