Theres a poncy guy at hodinkee suggesting a white metal 2 hander on leather strap is the only acceptable watch for black tie event. And no watch for strict formal.

You might find that today's 'black tie wedding' is a bit different from a formal black tie evening event. More relaxed and more about dressing up for the younger ones.
Hope you have fun. I'd wear any of them.

Obvious answer seems to be that Omega Dynamic (?) in the bottom right. Lovely watch.

Breitling Navitimer would be my choice.
Remember,there is only one code-yours.
The yellow seawolf and some flare in there.
Or the bulova or steinhart depending on straps.
I have a nice little Omega Seamaster Deville 711, think it cost me £225 and the same again to get it serviced and lightly polished. Its used primarily as my dress watch.
Black and white tie: no wristwatch...
So many replies and yet not one with the obvious and right answer?
Cartier.
Tank Française.
Tux? Tux?
This thread isn't doing my blood pressure any good.
To answer your question, something understated but of quality.
Mind you, that's my answer to a lot of things.
Would be my choice but not an option from the OP's collection. I would go with the PAM.

The OP has NO suitable timepiece in his collection.
He needs to buy (or, indeed, borrow from a friend)...
A Cartier.
Tank Française
Seiko Cocktail Time
I'd go with the Omega or the Panerai.
A few on here seem to assume that wearing Black Tie or a tuxedo for a wedding these days requires them to brush the mothballs off their Grandfather's Savile Row cashmere double breasted.
I'm guessing that the groom is as likely to look like this:
...as this:
So talk of drongos wearing Cartiers and watches being infra dig is surely a little misplaced.
Realise I'm too late but I think your Bulova is the most appropriate ..... but I'd wear the PAM because, frankly, I'd always wear that PAM. It's absolutely smashing.

Bulova is the most suitable, but I think this just proves you need to buy another watch!
Sell me the Doxa, I'll have a root around for something I dressy I can do you for part exchange.
If it's anything like the black tie events I've been to - none of them "posh" - most people won't give a monkeys and will just wear whatever they wear every day, or even their one "good" watch, regardless of how unsuitable it is. Brings to mind a good friend of mine who was given a huge T W Steel on brown leather for his 30th. Wore it to a wedding with a black suit, black shoes etc. Didn't fit under a cuff. Looked ridiculous. He was happy though!
Sorry but you show you ignorance on dress code.
Not one suit out of your four photographs could be classified as black tie. The two modern guys are too jazzed up and the Edwardians are not even wearing the correct waistcoat or even wearing a black tie. Also the cloth looks wrong, so try to make the effort to get some of the basics right. The Edwardians are wearing what we would now refer to as smart casual.
Black tie is a uniform and out of respect to the host you comply with the code. If you will not comply with the code, do the decent thing and stay away from the event.
You wear the uniform, not what you want.

You sound like you are a bit of a sheep. Unless of course you are the one who has the authority to decide what is worn on a 'black tie' event. Are you?
If not, perhaps you can point us all to the 'black tie' authority or committee who have written and control the rules. Where are they recorded by the way?
Last formal event I went to was a formal event at Oxford University and I wore a yellow DW-6900 G Shock. Is my reputation ruined, has someone 'taken my name'?

At the end of the day, modern times give way to certain traditions having less value than they once did.
Nevertheless the OP asked for the dress code of watch/tux and the answer is a small, as thin as possible, gold or white gold time only watch. Preferably with no seconds hand, as it is seen as uncouth to keeping an eye on the time at such an event. Simple. In fact that's why these type of watches exist.
If someone wants to break with tradition, then I don't think they are going to be shown the door. But the answer is what it is, and been as I don't own such a watch I would rather wear nothing.
Just to round off this thread, I wore the Panerai to the wedding, it fitted under my cuff just fine and a thoroughly good time was had by all.
When I started this thread I was looking for suggestions in a light-hearted way, based on the fact that I'm fully aware that I don't have a dress watch. I certainly wasn't worried about the etiquette surrounding black tie wear, the origins of the word tuxedo or Edwardian standards of dress - although I found the answers quite funny (with the possible exception of the word 'drongo' ).
Actually I did get one suggestion that I rather liked and hadn't thought about - namely putting my Marine Chronometer on a black leather strap for a slightly more formal look. That particular watch head has been on blue leather, dark brown leather and the current tan alligator-look leather, but never black.
Regards to all,
Simon

I think the navitimer would look very smart!

Dude, just buy an inexpensive, yet great quality Orient Bambino in any of the versions they now have available. If bought from longislandwatch.com or maybe from Amazon, it shouldn't set you back more than $140.00. That way, besides wearing something more appropriate to this wedding, you will have a more balanced collection and this conundrum you now have will be something of the past. By the way, if you'd rather spend a bit more, take a look at any of the Mido Bartoncelly III Heritage. These are beautiful, extremely thin and beautiful watches which would go well with a tux. Bought from a reputable grey market dealer it should be around 600.00. Still, for the money, the Orient is a good idea.
