    Dunhill Wheel Watch 'Petrolhead'

Anyone remember the Dunhill Petrolhead ?
I remember seeing One in a magazine back in the Noughties. then tried One on in the Trafford Centre a year or so later (was discounted as I remember).
I actually bought One on E-Bay last year but the seller was either dodgy or I was gazumped (or both).
I've posted a WTB, but thought a thread may help and spark some discussion too.
I'll post a picture off my phone shortly.

I would love to buy One (or at least have a look and a try) if anyone out there has or knows of One.

That's very unusual, never seen that model before. For reasons I can't quite fathom, I've been tempted a few times to get a Dunhill Xcentric but the prices have always been on the high side and it does have a passing resemblance to my Seiko Arctura stainless steel.

Some are pure 1980s styling and very blingy. Plus their watches seem to command quite a high premium. They must be collectible to someone, although I think the Xcentric has a high-end automatic movement.

I owned a Petrolhead. They made them in two colour versions: the yellow you posted the photo of and the same watch with red in place of yellow.

Overall quality of it was good but there were some negatives: I found the strap a little annoying - it was special to the watch and the lugs were single sided, to make the watch case look like a classic car wheel spinner. I also found the case shape made it sit high on the wrist (my wrist is 7.25).

I kept mine for awhile, wore it very sparingly, and ended up selling it because of the factors above and it always felt a little gimmicky.

Well I’ve finally found, purchased and now own a Petrolhead.
Due to the fiddly nature of the strap (and it’s rarity) I thought I would replace it with One I prefer, whilst keeping the OE One in nice condition for posterity.
Despite several suggestions on another thread I started on here, I am really struggling to source a replacement, so thought I’d re-fit the Original and wear it sparingly, but disaster...
Whilst sizing it I’ve exposed a weak spot and the strap has split at the clasp end.
I’ve gummed it up but am aware this is only a temporary solution.
I think the Dunhill Watch Business is owned by the Richemont group, but I can’t find any information on sourcing spares/replacement straps. As per my other thread it’s the mono-lug design that’s causing problems with replacing with a Custom Strap.
On the plus side I love the Watch, it’s so different and fits really well into my little collection.
I’ve had a bit of crack with another owner on here, anyone else got One ?
I’d like to buy another as my non-Watch-guy Dad is really taken with it too.
(PS, The One I originally bought has re-appeared on E-Bay, for more money. The seller won’t communicate with me and I really don’t trust the guy, having bought and paid for it only to have the sale cancelled and funds returned).
Mine is apparently a Pre-Production Model so maybe the strap wasn’t fully to spec.

Blast from the past! i remember frantically looking for one as well - production levels most have been near zero... enough to even rival Rolex

Good luck with the search, hope you get it

    Bump from the depths !
Had this on last night, don’t wear it too often and as I’ve not managed to source another strap I’m very cautious about wearing it out of the house.
Would still like to replace the strap, but as per earlier posts on this thread the mono-lug design makes this difficult/seemingly impossible.
I know there’s a couple of past and present owners on here but I think it’s fair to say you will never see another in the wild.

Have a look on etsy and some of the facebook watch / horology groups, there are a number of individuals who make and sell straps and who may be small and agile enough to produce a one off for you. Worth talking to some of them possibly?

(Yet another) dredge, I’ve still not had any success in replacing or sourcing an alternative strap.
Tried Pav, Steve~O, Toshi etc etc.
    Any ideas ?

As per my earlier posts it’s the mono-lug case that is the problem.

You've probably already tried, but -

Having already tried various custom strap-makers, you may well be snookered, but here's a couple who may be able to help:

Tried all of the above and even left the Watch for a couple of weeks with someone who guaranteed they could do it and still no luck.
As mentioned previously a normal strap will fit, but the exposed inner lugs just don’t look right.
I even managed to acquire another Watch with a NOS strap with the thought of swapping the straps then selling on the surplus Watch.
However when it arrived it’s in better condition than mine (practically NOS) so would be a shame to split.
I wouldn’t sell mine as it’s a pre-production model of what is already a very rare watch so now I’ve got 2 !
    This hobby !

Had a light-bulb moment last night whilst wearing another watch with a fixed keeper style Nato.....
Had a rummage in my strap drawer and with some squinting and fiddling I think I’ve cracked it !
Acquired this Gas Gas Bones strap ages ago on another watch, the design hides most of the inner lug and as a bonus it’s one of the most comfortable straps I’ve ever worn.
So now I’ve got the best of both worlds, an absolute minter to cherish and a useable one to wear, whilst preserving it’s original strap.
Of course I don’t need Two, but as discussed many a time before we don’t actually need anymore than a £9.99 F91W.

Any other Petrolhead owners still on here ?

I think these watches were designed by Tom Bolt, the Watch Guru.

You could try reaching put to him through his website, he did have some funky Dunhill watches in his stock inventory...
