    Jacob Rees-Mogg announces baby Sixtus

J R-M has named his sixth child 'Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher'.

Poor kid but if anyone has a silver spoon it'll be him.

Jacob always seems out of sorts with the 21st C - he really belongs in the 19th C.

Yes, the silverest of silver spoons ;-)

Made me think; it would be great to be able to spell out your (first) name with your initials wouldn't it?

i.e Christopher Harold Richard Isambard Samuelson

I was amazed by his anachronistic poshness when I first saw him some years back. The disbelief changed to a sort of outrage that someone could be that privileged but latterly the outrage has turned to affection. I do not agree with him on many things but he is human and humane, witty, bright and a real character. We need more like him in The House of Commons.

If Jeremy Corbyn can do well by being a throw-back to the 70s, so can JRM - in his case the 1870s.

I agree with the right honourable gentleman.
At least he's a real person and not one of these zombie cloned death twats that seems to be the norm in mainstream politics these days.

He's following the Roman style of naming offspring after their numerical order in the family - Quintus, Septimus etc.

    Fnar.

He is our MP, I always look forward to him canvassing as he is a quirky toff.

But he is a great MP for his constituents and very astute during his surgeries.

    Man of the people

I find his kind of behaviour - deliberate/faux ignorance of the "real world" - a bit of an affectation. A bit like "Who's [bookmark pop-culture celebrity]?" comments on threads. If genuine blue-bloods like the heirs to the throne can attempt keep up, then so can he. It's more of an upper-middle class way of sugar-coating general rudeness and distasteful right-wing views.

He's a bit of a Boris Johnson or even Chris Ewbank.

Amazes me how unashamedly intolerant and prejudiced some people are when they react to Mogg based just on his poshness.

I massively respect how he doesn't get over excited in interviews. Notice how he waits his turn and doesn't interupt others, but gets interupted all the time himself.

Wish we had a few hundred like him rather than the ignorant self-serving oafish spineless shower currently infesting our parliament.

As far as I am aware, he is not "posh". He is "middle class" like probably most on here, me included.

He is not from a long-term titled background - his father was _given_ a life peerage. Not sure why. A fairly well-off family, but not posh by any means.

I knew some chaps like him when I was younger.

I am not defending the chap, if he is on here I am sure he will speak up for himself.
He does noticeably wince in the interview when Andrew whatsisface calls him upper middle class.

Exactly the point I was making before. Unless I'm completely mistaken, he's pretty much as upper-middle-class as they come, but has aspirations to be upper class. (Or his overbearing, aspirational mummy encouraged him to behave that way). It's all affectation, and the polar opposite of the Guy Ritchie-type "mockney".

Most people widely considersed "posh", are either upper-middle-class with money (or are aspirational lower/middle-middle-class).

Class is such a complex issue in the Uk, especially when so many try to hide their origin. The middle-classes are generally the worst.

I find it amazing that you are amazed. Tolerance and prejudice seemed to be optional extras these days and only applied when it suits.

Care to give a referenced quote, interview etc, to back up your claim?

Your statement is the very definition of bigoted.

bigoted (adjective) - obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, and intolerant towards other people's beliefs and practices.

Depends if that is a defining characteristic of the upper portion of the middle class. Do you always aspire to be in a higher class - not necessarily?

I think he will go far, there seems to be a dearth of todays politicians with a brain........
