37 degrees today. Official recommendation to stay indoors 11-21h.

Last night's weather forecast: "Wednesday will not be as hot as today" (Tuesday). Yeah right. It's hot as hell 32+C, low humidity and all. I stepped into the workshop around 6 AM this morning. The temp inside was still a whopping 26C. I got home around 1:30 PM. Later this evening I'll go back for a few hours. According to the current forecast (why bother...), it will cool down to a mild 22C tomorrow.

I have been in Pau this week and it has been roasting. High 30's combined with stifling humidity makes it feel more like Singapore in the summer. Looking forward to getting back home to a balmy 22c!

If so they're brilliant. We use one here in Seattle in the summers. We usually get a month or two of high 20's to mid 30's temperatures and its perfect for that. We live on the top floor of a flat roofed building and we face south so sometimes our place doesnt get below upper 20's even at night. It'll bring down a room's temperature about 7-8 degrees, not a lot but its enough to take the edge off.

They dont do well in high humidity areas though, the lower the humidity the more effective they are.

Ps. Put ice in the water reservoir.

My wife has one of these in her home office:

She's pretty happy with this Dyson! It's not an airco as such, more a sophisticated fan, but it's a great product. Powerful and absolutely quiet. It even has a pollen filter. Looking at the 'catch' after a week, it does it's work properly.

Temps hit the mid-30s today. I took a trip to my watchmaker, collecting a Tudor Sub and Rolex Precision for my wife (maintenance). The watchmaker is located just on the Dutch side of the Dutch-German border. Temps there hit 35C there and on my way back I got caught in a traffic jam heading west. (first day of the German holiday season...). Temp rose to 38, 39 degrees when driving slowly!

My son is sailing in Athens and the temps on the water, in the RIB, are hitting 40C, on land it's even worse! The only positive thing: it's really, really windy there: 20+ kn.

A few years back when we had our holiday in scorching hot Italy, bar owners had these fans attached to the sailing and there were blocks of dry0ice in front of the fans. The air coming from the fans was really cold. Advantage of dry-ice: it doesn't melt quickly. Not even in hot weather.

Out early this morning on a 20 mile cycle ride and took the kayaks out this afternoon with my endears daughters partner for a leisurely paddle (with a couple of beers dragging in the net bag behind)
Absolutely glorious- car read 39 as I loaded the kayaks back up

Maybe not so much up north. I was wondering what was going on at Knockhill with the British Superbikes and then I found their Twitter feed and looked at:

The temperature peaked at 35 degrees here today but my saviour is that I have a pool and after just 5 minutes in it, you feel cool for at least an hour.

Also we have retractable canapies that can be wound out and shade is more available.

The best asset in Spain is the continuous gentle breeze, that is a true gift from God.

If the UK is genuinely going to be hoter, we need more open public pools like we had back in the 50s and 60s.

Another sunny and warm day. The wind now from the W. It should bring some relief (temps down to the low 20s).

More of a concern is the drought. The easten part of the country (starting where I live) has a water shortage. Starting next week, farmers in the east are not allowed to pump water from brooks anymore. Word has it that the situation in Germany is even worse.

Cold here today, had the heating on for half an hour to take the chill off. The rest of the week looks sh*te too. I feel a ‘Worst Summer Ever’ thread coming on!

It never ceases to amaze me that even Northern Europe gets wonderful summers and we get utter garbage.

I am sitting here on my veranda in Spain and the temperature at 9.30am is 26 and rising. The sky is bright blue with the odd very small clould in the distance. It will probably be like this for a few months ahead.

Reading about your rubbish weather in the UK makes me realise why the majority of you lot keep moaning your socks off about anything and anybody.

Right now you all have my genuine sympathies.

Too windy for any sailing yesterday I gather. Hopefully they should be on the water today. More time to recover from the opening ceremony...if needed?

I would have moved south years ago but my wife wouldn't leave her family. My eldest daughter wants to move south at the earliest possible opportunity.

Cars all have their auto-lights on today its so dull.

Great pic! The guy taking the pics during the event happens to be an old friend. He sent me a message telling how hot it is. ‘Hot and a lot of wind; like standing inside a hair dryer!’

Indeed! Too windy. Unsafe to go out with 400 boats. Good day for a training. Not racing.
Today they went out and first stories that have reached me are that... there was hardly any wind!

Indeed. That was yesterday. Weather is too much like a sand-sun-sea holiday. 4.5 days with only 4 races (should have been 8). There's simply no wind.

Like so many spots -we have 'm too here in Holland- it all depends on the so-called sea breeze. Wind coming from the land-side is too unpredictable, so it's best to wait until 3 PM or so when the wind direction changes to wind coming from the sea. Yesterday that wind didn't come. Current news is that their all out on the water. Girls' fleet is racing, the boys' is trying to get started, but there are big wind shifts.

At the same time... last few days, the weather forecast tells us that the temps should be in the low 20s or high 10s. Can't say I notice that: it's more like mid 20s - high 20s! And no sign of rain. My grass it turning yellow as we speak.

My wife watched my youngest for an hour at football training tonight wearing a t-shirt, hoodie and a jacket. She came in numb. Had to have a shower and put the heating on to warm up.

Honestly, one of the worst summers I’ve ever known. Very similar to four of the last five and nine of the last ten.

Forecast for the rest of the week is cool and wet with threat of torrential storms. FFS.

We had good summers here in 2003 and 2018.

It's crazy. I'm WFH today too and I've got the heating on. It was 14 degrees here on Christmas Day and it's 15 today. WTAF is that all about? Climate change in full effect!

The sky is dark like an October dusk and it's pouring with rain.
