    Pubs and Clubs in Luton

    Hi guys,
I'm flying out of Luton on Friday for a few days in Portugal with a couple of my mates and staying overnight on Thursday. We are all in our mid forties and looking for some decent bars, pubs and anywhere worth visiting for a few hours that evening... Preferably with a party vibe and some decent music, dancing and not too young a crowd. Won't be eating out so food not an issue.
Any suggestions on venues most welcome and much appreciated please.

I worked on the doors in Luton for about 12 years, my advice would be save your money for Portugal but that's not going to happen so sensible crowd use to go to G casino drinks food & entertainment, might be worth a call beforehand as I think they run a members thing to keep the idiots out.
Harpenden only 10mins in taxi might be a better bet. Good luck!

I used to work in Luton, and The Bitter End was always an after-work favourite.

Mind you, that was 26 years ago when Luton was a little rough around the edges...

Hmm, doesn't look like it's a pub anymore

None of this helps you at all, of course, but Luton town centre is generally a lively place, and there are some great curry houses in Bury Park which is only a 10 minute walk from the centre

Given that you will probably be going for it in Portugal, a few quiet pints in a real ale pub might be a better bet. There's a few proper pubs on the bottom end of the Arndale around Castle st.

I'm still trying to reconcile mid-forties 'party vibe' dancing with no youngsters on a Thursday in Luton :)

I'm forty next year and the thought of party vibe dancing fills me with horror

    Indeed.

It's been a while since I hit anything "hard".

I think "hitting it moderately and sensibly, with an eye to not getting too late a night otherwise I'll really suffer in the morning, and what's all this modern music with the robot voices anyhow? I can't hear what people are saying, and the price of these drinks is ridiculous!" might be closer to the mark.
So clever my foot fell off.

I was in the canaries once with some lads having a quiet pint or seven before starting the evening when a large forty-ish year old fella came down to the bar in a custom printed Tshirt saying "Big Trev" on the front and "Tenerife 05" on the back. Clearly some sort of stag / birthday effort. After a while a skinny forty-ish fella came down with a similar T shirt proclaiming he was "The Worm".

We thought they were the tip of the iceberg, but no. Big Trev and The Worm then sat next to us and started discussing where to go that night. There were two of them. With t shirts. They were probably looking for a party vibe ;)

Thanks for the advice guys. There will be no bad taste T-shirts, no stag do behavior but certainly nobody thinking they can't drink, stay out till the early hours and not function the following day as they are over 25... Work hard and play hard is the ethos of myself and the other 2 lads and we sure as hell try and enjoy the fruits of our labour... Nothing wrong with that IMHO of course.

    Only jest.

I'm as mid 40's as you can be (45).

I've just come back from a week in Brussels which ended going straight from Manchester airport to Blackpool at midnight for a weekend stag do. Out on arrival then back out at 10:30am until after 1am Sunday.

Just the 'hitting it hard' phrase that made me chuckle.
