You should have taken photos.
They may accept the repair anyway.
Worth a try.

A few weeks ago I noticed there was some dust and debris under the glass and on the dial of my RN Diver quartz. The watch was purchased in November last year and was the last bead-blasted case version in stock. Since then, CWC have raised their prices to a frankly ridiculous level, and I thought the price I paid was steep anyway, but hey, when has this hobby ever been rational?
I got in touch with Silvermans and they said to send it in and we'll send it to CWC in Switzerland for cleaning. Roll on one month and the watch has been returned to me, free of dial debris but now with added nicks and scrapes on the case and one lug. Now, it isn't a massive scrape on the case side, and it is only a nick on the lug, but WTF? I know that the watch was perfect when I sent it in because I checked it all, and the blasted finish shows up marks more easily than a standard brushed case. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures and I now know I should have. The only pics I have that show a perfect watch from all angles were taken at the end of March this year when I was think of selling it.
I'll post pics up later tonight, but what happens now? Live with the marks? Ask to send it back to CWC and rectify the bodges, with the possibility of either, losing the watch for another month or more, or having to argue the case in a my word against theirs?
I know marks don't bother some people, and I'm not overly precious (it is a 'tool' watch after all) but I am pi55ed off that someone hasn't taken proper care of my property, especially since if they'd done the job properly in the first place there wouldn't have been debris on the dial and it wouldn't have had to go back.
What do we reckon?
Edit: pics now added

Often repair shops take photos of incomming process. Have you ask them for their photos?
Before during and after service shots?

Things like this annoy the hell out me!

I'd be well pissed off
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Very annoying and unacceptable , I hope everything is out to your satisfaction .
Well I emailed Silvermans with pics of the damage and to give them credit they've responded very quickly with 3 options:
1. You can return your watch and we can replace the matte case on your watch (this is slightly odd as earlier in the email they said they have no matte cases in stock so I assume they mean replace it with the standard case, although looking at the website they don't seem to have any of these either? Maybe they mean repair?)
2. You can return your watch and we will refund the purchase price of your watch
3. You can return your watch and we will replace it with a new one when the new stock arrives at the end of July. This option will mean you are without your watch for approximately 2 months.
I'll check on the first option but I'm leaning towards a refund, although the new prices give pause for thought on that score should I ever decide I want another one.
Hmmm …?
They appear to have taken the bull by the horns - and made generous options.
Al
Totally unacceptable, but seems they think do too so that's good news.
Maybe they have stock of cases for warranty or repair work, but they don't have enough or the desire to sell them anymore.
Given the options, I think it would be a new model for me. Even if you want to jump ship on the brand, you can likely flip the new one for more than the refund.
Yes you have to wait a bit, but would you have done much with the money in the meantime?
You could ask them to honour the price you have paid now for a new watch when they are available in a couple of months?
If new ones are more in price, 2 months will fly and you will get a brand new one so I would say option 3 is the best as I think you seem to want the watch still 😃 and this way is win win all round

I have found the Silvermans service to be excellent. Obviously this shouldn't have happened but to be honest this is why I dislike the sandblasted finish, it marks so easily and doesn't even look good marked unlike brushed and polished stainless steel. I had this problem with the PRS 5 when I received it.
After the first wee mark you can relax and wear it as intended. If you get a replacement Sods Law dictates you will only mark it yourself. Mines nicely worn in now . . .
F.T.F.A.
They have mine at the mo fitting a new crystal let's hope all is as should when returned home
Regards OP, you must revert back to them. A real pisser.

At least they have taken the customer service seriously. A lot of other companies might well have denied responsibility.
I'd take option 3 a brand new replacement. Other than that a refund

Personally I would be annoyed but would ultimately use the watch as it is as it's a tool watch and would get marked anyway?
I understand that you want to be the one to create the wabi but it's part of the watches history/story now and you know how it got there!!
Chris
Full marks on this occasion to Silvermans.
Either Option 3 for a new watch, OR Option 1 with the promise of being able to switch to 2 or 3 if you aren't satisfied with the repair.
But Option 3 is best I think and is the one I would go for - a generous result
i would also take the replacement watch
I agree, best of all, three options.
Money back would be my route, especially as you thought of selling, presumably at less than what they will refund.

Option 3 gets my vote.
If the watch doesn't have sentimental value go for the new watch option.
