Your favourite holiday watch and why ?

So my holiday has arrived and I look at my watch collection to decide which ones go and which ones stay . I always bring two along , one for day trips and activities and one for posing with at the pool and evenings .

So this time it's my Seiko blumo for trips to the beach and mountains hikes and my Rolex GMT master 2 for flexing around the pool with .

Which watches do you take and what factors do you consider ? This question really is for people who own more than 2-3 watches I guess

I leave my expensive ones at home and take my G-Shock beater. I'd love to take a good one for the evenings but I'd worry about it in the apartment. Also doesn't matter if I get sand or sea water on the G-Shock, just hose it off and it's good as new.

Agree with Matt. Recent thread on similar issue convinced me that g shock is the way to go for holidays and travelling. And 1 watch only. Hotel safes are Andy pandy made.

I never take really expensive watches on hols as they can attract too much attention depending on where you are. As we have learned on here recently, hotel safes are hardly secure so for me it's not worth taking anything I wouldn't be prepared to lose or is easily replaced.

Holiday watches are almost always divers, or are at least substantially waterproof. Choice is usually a Seiko diver (SKX, Turtle, Sumo or MM300), a Sinn U1T or a Black Bay (if staying somewhere posh).

All time fave holiday watch is my MM300 though.

PAM 024 for me and the wife takes my GMTc - figure watches are safer with me that in an empty house for a fortnight

I used to take an old beater watch on holiday but one day saw a guy at the pool sporting a steel Daytona , he looked the business strutting he's stuff around the pool , then it suddenly dawned on me . I had a steel GMT locked away in my safe in london whilst I was wearing a Seiko 5 at the pool on holiday ! Why on earth own a great watch and not wear it on occasions where you really get to enjoy it , whilst on holiday at the pool with no sleeves to cover that beauty .

So you have sort of answered your own question.
Take and enjoy your GMT perfection all round. No leaving in hotel room just wear 24/7

+2. I Never take any watch which I would regret losing or dying over on holiday. Professional robbers are exactly that , they will know how to fleece a tourist. Keeping a Rolex in a hotel or apartment room safe is not a guarantee. For me I take either a G shock or Seiko Prospex Pepsi bezel on a NATO.

Yes it's that time of year again...

I'm heading to Playa Blanca Lanzerote tomorrow. I'll be taking one watch, a Submariner, which is perfect for day and night. I don't have a safe at home so wouldn't ever leave it there for a week while I'm away.

Gmt, fine to swim in, quick change strap system to switch between colours and materials so I don't miss not being able to change watches. I don't intend to part with it so quite like developing a sentimental value over time and travels.

Having seen a Rolex stolen from someone's wrist in Italy, I never take anything too flash or high value on holiday. It also needs to be able to take a knock and be water resistant. My first choice is a Seiko Diver like one of my Turtle's.

The last watch I'd wear would be a Rolex.

Seriously? There is no nook or cranny that you could stash a watch in - that a team of burglars would have to spend the entire 2 weeks, to find?

You seriously leave your submariner when going on holiday? It may be because as we spend our holiday as a family we choose destinations that are less adventurous than if I went alone but the only time I took a specific watch (G-Shock) instead of my daily wearer (sub now, Seamaster before) was when we knew we were going to go canyoning.

Of course I could hide it, but I could also hide it somewhere in a hotel room. But then I didn't buy it to play hide and seek, I wear it.

I'm not a worrier, when away the watch is of least concern. My children's safety is my main priority (and wide), then my camera, then my phone, then my wallet then the watch as it's the thing that could be replaced with the least hassle.

Both lovely watches but too similar in function and style for me. I'd be choosing a dress watch to go with either.

Depends where I go but I'm more inclined to take my g-shock as don't need to worry about damage/getting stolen or attracting wrong kind of attention. That said if I'm going to a swankier resort the PAM048 normally works a treat! It has a great wrist presence, has quite a unique look and works particularly well with a casual look.

Haha definitely, and thanks very much. My other two decent watches are a Monaco and a BLNR - so I suppose it's seen as a bit strange not taking the GMT but these three just have everything I need for a holiday.

I am going away in a couple weeks (although staying in the country) and I shall most certainly be taking a trio. Not quite as well executed as yours but a trio none the less. Mine will consist of a Seiko SARB033, Seiko SRP773 and a G-Shock.

Still fits the bill :) - though I avoid the gym at all costs so need for the G-Shock in my trio haha. I shall be at the bar.

I did just that on my last proper holiday actually. An SKX009 and a Sinn U1T for beach/pool and bbq's and a G-Shock for the rough and tumble of the water park with the kids.

My little one is only 5 months so no rough and tumble just yet - apart from cleaning sick off things haha. The Speedmaster will be his when he's older so the trio will eventually have to include a G-Shock as a replacement (and the Speedy goes in the loft) I suspect!

I usually take three when we head off on a cruise. We're going in a couple of weeks and I'll be taking these three :

BBN does daytime duty and shares evenings with the other two.

For a cruise - why not? I'd probably take a couple at least............

Just the one. Nice bright 'happy' watch. Cheap too so if I lose it I won't lose any sleep.

Back on topic. Most people are going to say it would have to be something that has decent waterproof levels, perhaps 100m. It is then going to be down to personal choice over the value in your collection. For me, Seiko Alpinist. Can handle casual and smart equally as well.

I don't wear a watch , no need to look at the time on holiday , I'm there for avoiding all I come away from

Insurance paid me out for my Panerai when I was hit over the head in my home (pretty safe) city so I was glad I was insured and goes to show you can be robbed anywhere.

Providing I am not going somewhere incredibly dodgy which is unlikely for a holiday I take what I fancy.

DSSD in Thailand in the rain last week!

2 pics , one focused on my beach watch , my trusty Seiko sumo on the super bracelet and another focusing on one of my favourite beaches in Greece , Anthony Quinn bay in rhodes

A choice of my Dreadnought Voyager, which is perfect for long haul - and not so - diving holidays, as I can dive in it and wear it all day and keep track of the time at home, and my Breitling B-1, better for less active holidays, as I can set alarms and have a second timezone set for home and on display (easier for my ageing eyes to read than the GMT hand on the Voyager.

I also like wearing my Sinn Arktis on holiday, because it usually means I'm skiing

I'm not a worrier, when away the watch is of least concern. My children's safety is my main priority (and wide), then my camera, then my phone, then my wallet then the watch as it's the thing that could be replaced with the least hassle.[/QUOTE]

Good point , if you can't enjoy your watch whilst on holiday then what's the point of owning it , I used leave my watch at home when on holiday and watched others enjoy the fruits of their hard labour on a hard earn't holiday . Nothing feels better than walking out of the pool with your favourite watch strapped to your wrist

This is the one for the beach though , bit of snorkelling , swimming , rolling around on the sand , best leave the GMT in the safe for this one

Seiko Marinemaster MM300 - it’s really not me and it’s too heavy for comfort, but I like it. A holiday is an excuse to wear it.
