    The TZUK Speedmaster Thread

    The TZUK Speedmaster Thread

The Omega Speedmaster is an iconic watch, and a forum favourite so how about a single thread dedicated specifically to photos of this watch, in all its variations?

The standard Speedy pro is also famously versatile, so examples of all the different straps TZUKers have tried would be great for inspiring others.

I'll start by sharing two of my Speedmasters made 50 years apart; the first a 1967 cal.321 145.012, sadly now gone to another TZUKer. The second is the current standard Speedy with hesalite and giant presentation case (ref. 311.30.42.30.01.005), from 2017.

    Here's how the new Speedmaster Professional "moonwatch" is now presented as standard - if only all luxury watches came with such plush packaging and presentation;

    So TZUK let's see yours!

Whilst its a well liked watch, I'm still hanging out for the ''Smiths'' chronograph, hopefully our host will eventually come good.

That new box and assorted guff looks well over the top for a tool watch IMO.

I have always been a Speedy fan, if interested you can see my lot by clicking on the link in my sig.

Site's a bit old now so be prepared to crank the handle a bit!
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I've heard this on here a lot, but I for one appreciate the presentation set and it does feel special.

A few different strap combinations with a Speedmaster Broad Arrow. I tend to wear this one far more than the Moonwatch Speedmaster.

I agree. Personally I think the packaging of a watch is crucial as it's all part of the experience.

Speedy Pro on a strap from Heuerville which I prefer during the warmer months.

The Mark IV has gone but the others are still there waiting for the Speedie Tuesday to arrive. After that, I'm going for a Soyuz meteorite dial.

Just put a new strap on the Apollo XV that I had custom made by Steveo Straps. Thought I'd share!

A lot of people say this but I'm not so sure. The step adds some depth to the dial but the tritium on the step can look a little dirty. I think the slope of the later models is a cleaner look that I prefer.

Did all the pre-moons have a stepped dial?

No the first few 3 years had no step either, it was a 1960s thing

Love the pre moon. Is the polished finish how they were original? I ask as mine is so bashed up it's impossible to tell!

It's a paperweight, but it's more for show as it's surprisingly thin and light. I guess it'd hold down a couple of pieces of paper if it wasn't too windy!

    Still, it looks nice!

    Get off.

This is what you got for your $195 back in the day.

    Classy.

Oooh imagine going into an old watch safe and finding that!

By the way, what are the (?aftermarket/OEM) bracelet options for the Speedmaster?

I much preferred the bracelet on my '67 one compared to the '17 one, which feels too substantial for the head, if that makes sense?!

I know exactly what you mean, the beefed up modern bracelets seem incongruous on a vintage style watch.

Personally I like the 1450 and 1479 bracelets.

I will go and research myself, but are these vintage style bracelets that would fit a modern 20mm lug width Speedmaster?

Yes they would fit but before you get too fixated on the 1450 bracelet, be aware that they routinely fetch £800-900 due to their scarcity and desirability. The 1479 is rather cheaper but not as distinctive. Check ebay if you want confirmation of this...

Are there any well recognised, modern aftermarket bracelets in the vintage style that can be put on the Speedy?

I don't mind modern build qualities, it's the modern "maxi bracelet" style I don't like.

Something I didn't spot on mine until yesterday was the etched omega symbol on the hesalite, right in the centre...

A regular 3570.50 on a few different straps

and my latest flame, a new Speedy "Tin Tin" Racing (311.30.42.30.01.004). Had it a few weeks and am besotted with it. Not had chance to play with straps on it yet. Besides its getting hot and sweaty over here and I love the bracelet.

Congrats on your Tintin! One of my favourite Speedies! Tried several straps on it:

Top is a Hirsch Grand Duke, bottom is the OEM rally strap on Omega deployant.

    Enjoy!

    Yes, the 1171.

These used to be a lot less than a hundred quid from Cousins years back when I bought mine but I'm sure there are still plenty of them around second hand.

Make sure you get the 633 ends.

Bracelets aside, have you tried a NATO?
    Cheers,

    Fantastic, thanks!

I keep meaning to try the NATO's that came in the box - will give them a go today I think!

Off to search for that bracelet...

Here we go - freshly installed! I don't think I have ever tried a NATO before - I think I like it, it's certainly more comfortable than the bracelet on a hot day like today.

On a plain brown leather, not an expensive strap and didn't think I'd bond with it. But now love it as it gives the watch a military look whilst saving the Bracelet further wear.

A bit like an integral bracelet but in leather. Reason to ask is that I reckon it look brilliant on a MKII

Di Modell Rallye with orange stitch, it's a nice combination. I rather like that image as it shows Speedmasters on bracelet, leather, kevlar and velcro.

Thank you for that and even better I've realised the DiModel Chronisimo has the notched lugs I was looking for and is also extremely well rated.
