    Stuff that shouldn't work...

    ... but does.

May I nominate peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Sounds hideous. Tastes rather good. Elvis would have approved.

Also, can I nominate this track. Those of you who were brought up in the 70s might find that 8 bit music has a certain blunt charm. The Velvet Undergound need no introduction. Mixing them together should be... awful. Agreed, it's no masterpiece but it sort of works. It's listenable.

No, before you ask, I am not drinking.

Peanut butter is the devils vomit (to me).

I used to work with a guy who had marmalade and bacon in a coat sandwich..... Weird.

He used to keep it in his coat, Chris?

    That is just deviant.

I can't stand peanut butter however I'll happily scoff peanuts all day long. Go figure...

As for what shouldn't work but does, I give you marmite sandwiches made with white bread dipped in hot chocolate. Honestly.

I bet you never saw that one coming

Oh, and listening to that track reminds me of my Commodore 64.

Me too, started out with a trace of marmite on toast, but now have more marmite than butter, yummy, and washes down great with freshly squeezed orange juice.

I always have a bit of strong cheddar with my toast and marmalade. Lovely.

A lady at work always has marmite, cheese and maple syrup sandwiches. I'm yet to try it but it sounds like it shouldn't work.

One of the lads at work has a sausage / bacon roll every morning with salad cream and fried onions.

Where do you all stand on double cuff shirts with jeans.

Works well, or the sign of a man headed for sartorial Armageddon?

Yes, I know there are more important topics to be discussing but I'm all politicked out IRL.

carrot sticks and marmite :) It might negate any health benefits of the carrot, but it sure is tasty. Same principal as marmite and lettuce sarnies.

You can buy egg yolk by the carton. Shouldn't be too hard to turn into what you're after.

I have mentioned it somewhere else on here, but Marmite and mixed fruit jam on toast is heavenly.

  25. #25
Salty/Sweet combo's often work, which is what most of the suggestions so far are, that's why chocolate covered pretzls work so well. Also the salty/sweet popcorn mixes you can buy nowadays.
My favourites are either stilton on a hobnob or marmite on a chocolate digestive

Following on from the egg/ketchup pre mix, I have always thought that Marmite would do well if they sold butter / Marmite premixed in various strengths.
    Cheers..

Coming round to the idea myself.

Thought I might look a bit Top Gear.

Must try some of these rather decadent food combinations. Mind you, I blame Heston for introducing us all to culinary perversions.

Left over Xmas dinner sarnie; and I especially mean even with cold sprouts. You'd think it was grim but you've got to trust me on this, it's lovely!

Final one... LED lighting technology. A Bright Blue LED bulb with a yellow filter over gives a brilliant white light. Seems to fly in the face of what I thought I knew about lighting and colours.

I'm partial to mint sauce with lamb - so I can see the attraction of something acidic.

    See what you mean.

    It does work.

I can't quite find it within me to tie something like that on my wrist but if I spent a bit more time in the gym and underwater, I could probably find an excuse to wear it.

There's a smaller version isn't there? Think Foxy had one. Squarer case.

    Ooooph.

Also... am I correct in thinking that bicyles shouldn't work but do?
Science/engineering/physics would predict that bicycles and motorbikes do not balance when moving.
Or did I imagine that (possibly as an excuse for some of the more creative 'unplanned dismounts' I've had when mountain biking)?

See also "Bumblebees". I believe that science has proved they the bumblebee can't possibly fly. The only problem is that nobody has told the bumblebees.

Oh, I like the look of that.

Bought some bacon, coarse cut marmalade, thickly sliced white bread and some stilton for tomorrow's breakfast. The bacon/marmalade combo was from previous posts in this thread (I love sweet chilli sauce with bacon so I'm hoping tangy marmalade will be a go-er), I've had bacon and stilton before so there's nothing new to me there.

Will post my thoughts tomorrow morning, with pics
