    RUSSELL BULGIN ON WATCHES.

Does anyone remember reading an article by the late Russell Bulgin on watches ?
I think it was a column in Evo magazine, it does not feature in Russell's 'best of' book.
He was a big Rolex fan from memory.
I would love to re-read the article if anyone has it or remembers where it was published ?

Sadly I can't help, but I also loved his work and that of LJK Setright in CAR Magazine.

If it's the article I'm thinking of it was printed in 2001. I know this because I remember reading it in work and I was only in that section for six months from April to October, should at least help you narrow it down a bit.

I think I have this in the loft somewhere. From recollection it started with some talk about the link with motorsport and the watches of the formula one guys and one of the photographers and then went on to explain the mystic of the steel Daytona, which Russell owned to. I was waiting for mine at the time so I remember how good it was reading the articule.

If you find it could you scan it and P.M. it to me (or post it on here) please ?
    Great article.

As a slight aside, I once owned every single issue of Evo, but having moved 3 times in 6 months I grew tired of relocating them so sold up.
    Occasionally regret it now !

No problem it's definitely in the loft!

I always remember a supplement in a motoring magazine that was trying to introduce watches to motoring enthusiasts. I think it may have been a regular feature but the one that sticks in the mind was about collecting vintage Porsche Design chronographs. I didn't take enough notice at the time but it was one of the influencing touch points on the way to realising I quite like watches. Octane magazine possibly.

    RUSSELL BULGIN ON WATCHES.

Yes excellent book, mine is well read. The articles on Gran Turismo, taking 'Malcolm's Sierra shopping and Senna in Wales are Three of my favourites.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of his book?

Does it include the big drive story he did with Derek Bell that he wasn't able to tell because it all fell apart when they arrived at customs?

I did have a couple of copies, I'll have a look in my own loft later.
Don't remember a story with Derek Bell.

No idea, sorry, but would imagine it will be an earlier issue.
Think there was quite a bit of Steel Daytona content (something about despite being an Omega ambassador 'Schupermacher' concealed One in his suitcase) etc.

    Thanks.

Sorry, I could not find it, not given up, but It seems a lot of my Evo back issues have disappeared when I was clearing space a while back.

Would still love to read this article as per my original post.
I would buy the issue if anyone can help narrow it down.

You could try asking Harry Metcalfe; he's on Piston heads as user M4ser, or via his youtube channel.

It was before that. It was just as the Daytona with the Rolex movement was out in 2000. I’m going back up in the loft as I see I promised to in 2017!!
As I recall there was a CAR article on chronographs also written by Russell at a similar time!
