    G shock advice please

Talking to #1 son this evening and it seems he has damaged his Komandirskie - says the " glass " came off .
He still has a Scuba Dude in my drawer as yet unworn but we talked a bit about a G Shock .

He seems quite keen on the idea as some kids at school have them .

I'm afraid my knowledge of G's is poor and I am after recommendations.

He is adamant is shouldn't say Baby on it anywhere but even the smaller looking square ones on the web site say 48mm.

Any recommendations and where best to look .
We are currently different sides of the Atlantic so both US and UK options could work .

    Thanks Mark

    How old is your son?

I don't blame him for not wanting a Baby-G as they are intended for women.

Yes, you can't really go wrong with one of the classic 'square' G-Shocks like the DW-5600 series. Make sure he is okay with a black watch though. There are coloured variants and ones that are solar or solar atomic, but they get more and more expensive.

My 11 year old got a gw-5600 solar atomic. He LOVES it and its the perfect size and comfort. Having solar and atomic setting seemed pretty cool to him. Given that generation is brought up on smart phones and ipads... It added a bit of gadget factor to it all.

I can see a 5600 for $48 on Amazon. Com , I think it the same as your link
But to be honest there are an amazing number of variations and prices just starting a search with DW5600

The DW-5600E-1V already mentioned is a classic and excellent value; it happens to be space flight qualified by NASA which is often a selling point for kids big and small .

Regarding atomic on the more sophisticated models; you will possibly pick up the Fort Collins signal but it's likely to be hit-and-miss. It would synch up in the UK of course.

Both my boys have a g2900-f. It's one of the smallest g's and come in blue which is cool for boys.
They are cheap as chips and have coped for 2 years with my now 8 and 11 year olds.

That's another good candidate if the DW-5600 doesn't appeal. My son was about 13 when he first got into G-Shocks and was not keen on any of the 5600 series, especially in black. To him, they looked too much like nerd's watches, presumably the Casio F91W. Therefore, the coloured G-Shocks might be better for some.

Great choice, mine with bull bars, and on my boy who is seven, borrowed when the battery died on his G.

The negative display reads really clearly on those pics... are they nice and clear in reality? I got rid of my MIB Riseman years back as it was unreadable.

The issue for many people is that although negative displays often look good, they tend to be less legible than the positive displays.

    ^^^This^^^

Still probably wont't be a factor for an 11 year old but legibility is way better on a positive display. Negative though is way cooler which in itself is way more important when you're 11.

Not as good as a positive, its ok, depends on the lighting, mine is used at night mostly so its down to the the auto light, although its taken a back seat as my Marathon gets the action at work now.

I found a GWM5610MR-4 (the orange one) in Florida but they won't sell it to me because my credit card is not in the US !

They only want Paypal but you can't have a Paypal payment address in a different country from the delivery address and they won't ship internationally.

If anyone sees the Rescue Orange Tough Solar Atomic (at RRP not $400 !!) anywhere please let me know - still checking.

    Mark

Don't mention it. I wouldn't mind one myself. How's your Greek? It'll let you take it to the shopping cart, so I guess it's in stock at least.

I'd have gone for the F91-W, my son has gone through 3 of them - I'm sure a couple were just taken at school, during/after sports when they are not allowed to wear watches etc.
It's just a matter of time...

After an extended delivery process due to my location I finally received this today .

I'll be seeing #1 son in about a week and I'm sure he will be pleased .

MrsO is off traveling solo soon to India so have got her this to take instead of her Apple Watch

She did say - next time you buy me a watch make it a red one .

Great! Mine arrived earlier, as seen previously on a couple of other threads.

It has since left for warranty repair: the auto backlight sensor wasn't functioning properly. It seems it's a relatively common problem with this module, there was a thread about it on here. You may want to check out yours before giving it, if still possible.

    Analog & Digital Combination

Thought to point out some models that have both analog and digital dials and are medium size dial:

    Blue: G-100-2BVM
    Black: G-100-1BVM
    Radio controlled: AWG-M100-1AER
    Another one: AW-590-1AER

    Regards.

    G shock advice please

The orange G Shock has been worn for 1 week and the strap is showing discoloration on the inside already - is this normal?
I had expected a more robust item.
