Ref Post #21, I meant to add below that this is a truly excellent, insane collection.

Maybe worth more than my house ? (and I have an ok house !)

    Chaps

I have 5 Rolex, I Omega and 1 JLC plus my late father's Mondia.

That is more than enough for any sane person and I need to think of something else equally stupid to spend my money on.

    Regards

    Mick

8 in total but only 4 that I wear.
In all honesty I find 4 one too many.
I'm happy with one weekday, one weekender and a vintage for just cos.
    4 throws that pattern.

  7. #57
Currently I have around 90 or so Watches some modern and some vintage.

Reading some of the responses, I feel reassured about my sanity . In fact, I came to the conclusion I have an insufficient number of watches and now have 2 more incoming to take my total to 9.

A mere amateur compared to many collectors on the forum - but plenty of time ahead!

I ultimately got the expensive ones down to three http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...with-2016-SOTC

I've since added a couple, initially another Speedy Pro and a Breitling Seawolf, but these have now been replaced with a DJ II (Azure blue roman) and Milgauss Z.

As for the cheapies these are down to two GW5600s and a GW5610. The former two being beaters at different houses and the latter a spare.

Focusing on the five. I would actually say that that is to many. Three plus a Casio beater would be more than enough IMO. Any more is clutter IMO. But most of us clutter our lives......

Oh, just realised that I also have two Swatches - more clutter.
    & I thought I had problems😂😂

4 at present, got to 6 and realised i was a wearer not a collector, will probably end up with 3, the difficulty for me is i'm not sure which 3.

I own 5 watches; of which all but two could go and wouldn't be missed:

    1. A vintage Longines steel oversized Calatrava dress watch with the most drop-dead lovely dial. This is my daily wearer.
    2. A Patek Philippe Calatrava from the mid-sixties in yellow-gold with the wonderful 27-460M movement. Once this one returns from a restoration and full service by Patek, this will be my other keeper.

The other three comprise an Omega Speedmaster Coaxial that I find too unwieldy to wear regularly and it now languishes unwanted, a Nomos Orion Datum that manifests a zen-like level of sterility and boredom that can only mean a German designed it and a PVD Damasko that I find to be crap in comparison to the level of finish exhibited by all my other watches. I really should bestir myself and try to sell these. But I am sure they would contribute such a negligible amount to my bank balance that I really can't be arsed.

    Roguishly...

I'm at 12 at the moment.

Realistically can't get down to below 6, as I have some very sentimental watches I don't wear.

Bought a Breitling Superocean Heritage and Rolex GMT Black/Blue in the last month and between them I don't think I'll wear 4 of my other watches, so really ought to get down to 7 or 8 this summer.

  13. #63
    Too many.

I was doing well, getting numbers down slowly, and then bought four more watches in a week!

I'm going to try and limit to one addition per quarter - but also allow a one in one out on top
It's just a matter of time...

I know I can only wear 1 at a time, so sometimes question why I want more - and wonder whether I have a problem?

How many watches do you have - and how many is too many in your opinion?
At a certain point I was up to 15 and recently sold 3 watches. Mainly pieces I wasn't wearing a lot anymore or were bought on a whim.
I guess everyone has his personal number but for me somewhere between 10 and 15 and around 5-10 of those watches being "decent" pieces

I counted them the other day. Turned out to be a round 40.

But obviously, 40 is not the answer. The answer is 42.

So I went and bought two more off SC!

I am awaiting quite a stunning new arrival. Few weeks waiting ahead because the seller (it comes from a very reputable watch brand CEO's private collection) refused to sell it without full service.

I also have a watch being tailor made atm, a real one off.

Then I always have 1-3 watches at my watchmaker for servicing/repairs.

On top of that most are usually in a bank vault.

I'm afraid a state of the collection won't happen soon.

I have 4 nice watches that are keepers. I then usually have a couple that come and go, then about 4-5 watches of little value except sentimental which never get worn but obviously I'll always have.

Currently ten in the box as those in regular rotation.

Dumped stored in a drawer for other times, I have a couple of cheap Casios, a sentimental Timex, a barely-functioning Citizen Eco-drive, a crappy Indian franken "Citizen" and a sentimental Next watch.

Well, 14 Schauers and Stowas for starters (and that is after Kirk sold 4 more including 2 MOLEs for me). Oh and another on order from the 90th anniversary sets. Then another half dozen various watches, some of which must be kept like my 21st birthday Omega, and my father Rolex. Sold a couple on here in the last 2 weeks, and will be selling a couple more soon.

I'm actually shocked at everyone who has so few watches. I thought my 40 was conservative compared to some on here, but I think I need to start thinning the collection down!

    How many watches?

    I have 7
    Sub Date
    Explorer 2
    Seiko 007
    Orange Monster
    Black Monster
    Vostok Amfibia
    G Shock Rangeman

The cheap divers probably cross from wearing into collecting, but I don't care as I like them. In terms of expensive watches I'm always a bit perplexed by collections of a lot of similar watches irrespective of maker. I think that for me the best compromise would be a nice diver, GMT, Chrono, dress watch and quartz. On this basis I need a Monaco, Lange or Vacheron dress watch, and an Aerospace or B55 !

Edit: And an IWC Big Pilot, just because ;)

    11 at the moment

My current 11 and their proportionate purchase costs in a pie chart from the spreadsheet of reckoning. Doesn't everyone do this? :)

I'm currently at 31 watches of which 17 are divers, and 13 G-Shocks. Seiko forms the bulk of the collection, I'm well over posting a SOTC so watch this space

Just realised this is my 1000th post! I'll get that SOTC sorted this week and as is tradition get something sorted for the fundraiser

I have 2, my five digit Explorer ii and an Omega Seamaster for when I go on holiday, or for when the Rolex is being serviced.
I spend an inordinate amount of time stopping myself from buying another (Rolex obsessed) but whenever I go to pull the trigger I visualise putting my 16570 in a box and it sitting there. Stopped. And I can't do it.

    Four at the moment:
    Seiko Sarb017
    Seiko 5 "racer"
    Seiko Pepsi turtle
    Seiko Sarx029.
This figure can change up or down by one or two watches as I'm a bit of a serial flipper. The only constant here is the 017.

Not long after that, one of those five decided that it was the one and only, and the other four were out on their ear. I always wondered how that happened, and I can now see that the blame can be pinned on you

Tried to stick with a lower number but it’s currently at 16 -

    4 Omega
    3 Seiko
    2 Tag Heuer
    2 G-Shocks
    1 Heuer
    1 Glycine
    1 Fortis
    1 Tissot
    1 Kemmner

Nice bonus is as a collection I’m well up on what I have spent, although I’m thinking I could move on 10-12 watches and look for something special.
Unfortunately though I find it easy to buy but really hard to let go!

I have 6 what I call high end watches, I generally don’t count beaters.
If I didn’t have to sell to fund other incomings I would happily have treble that number!

I have two at the moment, a versatile diver (Black Bay S&G) and a vintage dress piece (1950s Kirovskie).

I'll probably assemble one of each of the following with time:

Diver (BB S&G now. Will eventually be a Sub or a BB58)
Field watch (Explorer 1, probably 39mm)
Everyday no-date (Oyster Perpetual 36 Black Dial)
    Everyday w/ date (preferably cheapish - work-suitable - maybe a SARB033, or a Sinn or Stowa perhaps)
Dress - (Longines Presence Heritage 38.5mm coming soonish)
Vintage - (1950s Kirovskie now. Pretty happy with it, although perhaps something with a solid 18k case would be nice)
Chrono - (Speedmaster or JLC Master Chrono sector dial)

Would see how I got on with that lot, and maybe thin it out a little thereafter, or add an extra complication piece. Definitely a wearer rather than a collector though. The thought of tens of thousands of pounds being tied up in old Rolexes horrifies me - life's far too short.

Just 2 so far, an Omega Seamaster 2254 and a Garmin Forerunner 230 (if that counts as a watch round these parts!).

It’s time to add another, hence I’ve registered here to learn a little more.

Also 2, a 1960s Junghans and a Seiko 5 sports. Recently moved on a heuer Pasadena so need to find another Chrono to replace that. Hopefully a Sinn 356 or maybe a speedy but that’s gonna require a bit more saving

I have not got an exact figure, it was about 300 but I sold about 20 on eBay in the last three or four months for around £8K.

I was thinking, "good, at last I am getting the numbers down"....................................... I have received 16 in the last week!!!

Still, I have a dozen or so currently up for sale.
