Ahhhh sorry, I miss read that to be 'under £1k'. This Nomos Club 701 has long gone but I managed to get it well below the £1k RRP when GBP was worth something...

My Damasko DC67si was under £1k pre-owned however it's my SBGX063 that takes the honours for best watch in that price range.

You've got a lot of choices with £1,000.
At the lower end a new Seiko SKX is unbeatable for the money. Can't really go wrong with any Seiko to be honest.

At the higher end a pre-owned SMP Quartz is bullet proof. Even one in tatty condition (to meet budget) could later be spruced up.

I've always thought Hamilton are good value for what they offer as well.

Sod that. I got a full size auto smp off a forum a year back for 1100 i think (although granted, having bought it I've not bothered to keep up on current prices)

If you can find a MM 300 for around £1000 then hands down it is the winner.
If one is patient, they are to be had for that price.

The classic autos better than quartz bs.

Ignoring that however, yes £1100 for the auto is a good price and unfortunately is not the norm these days. Watchfinder ask close to £2k so I wouldn't want to be paying more than £1500 for a nice example.
Frankly I'd rather buy a tired example and get it serviced. Even if you needed a new bracelet, wanted a sharp new bezel I'd buy knackered and make a minter rather than pay over the odds for crap from WF.

Yeah, just looked on chrono24 and 1400 is the cheapest UK based i saw. I bought mine specifically because of the slightly faded and worn bezel. Much nicer than a mint variant imo. Gives it great character

I was recently going to list my freshly serviced 2531.80 for well under 1k (£750 in fact) but decided to keep it, looks like it would have sold pretty quick!

I'd have bought it as a backup at that price! Would have sold in seconds. Definitely worth keeping imo. I reckon the price will rise over the next few years because recently omega really seem to be having g trouble bettering their older classic designs, not to mention increased prices which should hopefully pull the second hand prices up as well. Based on this thread, i had a look and every omega i own are now selling for more second d hand than what I paid

Another vote for the MM300. Recently reacquired one and they are quite superb. Prefer them to a SMP by a long shot

No mention of an Aquis, I think they're a great £1000 and under proposition.

The new Club Campus models from Nomos are tempting at the price.

All kinds of used Grand Seiko and Citizen Chronomaster quartz watches would be my preference in this price bracket. Absolutely beautiful finishing and quality for the price :)

The PRS-39 Sewills Ferreira, at £980. It's a snip for a watch with a 3/4 plate movement of this quality.

They're £1,750 new now with the recent price increase, but if you're patient I think around £1,000 is still about the going rate for a nice condition preowned.

    This one? http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ht=chronograph

That's a different model, but no less lovely. The 70's reissue is only available in polished finish, although I did one see somebody that had theirs professionally brushed and it looked fantastic.

I noticed it was different - the polished finish and the sub dials layout. I think I prefer the polished finish.

Ditto - fantastic quality, great functionality and great heritage. They're a hefty watch but comfortable due to the crown position and caseback profile

I find these are great value and pop up relatively often - obviously need to be ok with the size but it's so comfortable to wear

Lum Tec M series bronze. Best quality bronze cases out there with smooth movements and beautifully done dials. Also the prettiest non vintage, vintage lume I've seen. Massive chunk of quality for about £800.

I sold an SMP for about £1K over Christmas and it didn't stay long - no box/papers but was in super excellent serviced nick - underpriced it clearly.

On the other hand I struggled to get a taker on a Nomos Club Dunkel (full set). I let it go to Canada in the end for under £700 ISTR.

I also struggled to move on a lovely IWC Mark XV Spitfire and that went in the end for only about £1400 I think to a chap in Germany. This was all on Watchuseek which is more of a globalised market I think.

There is good value though just over £1K like the Tudor Ranger for around £1200. Cracking watch that one and a little under appreciated.

Best value new watch that I saw recently, in the January Sales to be precise, was a Longines Hydroconquest Chrono for exactly a grand. Might have been Beaverbrook's ?
