    Cousins Rubber B alternative

Rather than continue with the thread on SC I thought it would benefit more people to add this to Watch Talk.

I have a WTB at the moment for a Rubber B for a DSSD as I am not wearing the watch much as I find it a bit top heavy and hope that the wider Rubber B would sort this out. However after someone mentioned on SC that Cousins have a rubber strap for Rolex at £15.95 I thought I would give it a try.

    https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/ro...ariner-generic

As usual with Cousins, next day delivery and it arrived this morning.

I tried it on my DSSD and unfortunately the strap does fit but not as snug as I would like and as it isn't as wide as the Rubber B for DSSD didn't really help with reducing the head wobble.

So I then tried it on the watch it was meant for, the sub and sub GMT.

After a loooooong time trying to get the spring bars in (the rolex ones are too thick) I tried some spare bars and had to put a slight bend in one side. Weird as the other side went in straight with a bit of persuasion. Anyhow, I think it looks great and the buckle looks brilliant in its "oyster" style.

DSSD...You can see the gaps between the lugs.

    still doesn't look bad though,

but it is too thick to carry this strap off...

GMT looks ALOT better and I think this is a good alternative to Rubber B than anything....

and the strap fits the case thickness perfectly...

    A useful post.

I`m not a fan of rubber straps but if you're going to do rubber you might as well get a good fit! At this price it's a no-brainer if you fancy a change.

I agree with your comments re the DSSD, it suits the GMT a whole lot better.

One useful tip when fitting springbars to a rubber strap: lubricate them with a spot of silicone grease. Also worth trying springbars of different thickness to get the best fit.

I have a Cousins account, and intend to buy one of these rubber straps.

If any other members are interested in a group buy, I'm happy to hold-fire for a few days and order a number at one time.

Looks good. Can't knock it for less than 1/10 of the price!

Bending spring bars to get the fit though - eek, I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable wearing a watch knowing that they had the wrong, bent spring bars in!

At this price, you'd expect it to be silicone rather than the proper caoutchouc found with most OEM, including RubberB.

Is it a dust and lint magnet?

Such knockoffs have been there on eBay for a long time.
    Serviceable but not close.
    Surprisingly, not dust magnets IME.

OK, Ill hop over to this thread from the SC one as well...

Got mine today and am very impressed with it. I don't know how much I'll wear it but that's simply because I don't normally do rubber outside the bedroom. There was no way I was ever going to spend RubberB or Everest money (although I have a leather Everest) but, at the price this was definitely worth the punt.

My impressions so far are simple: It's comfortable and fits the case really well.

RubberB's have a different strap for the Subs with lug holes so does anyone know if this will fit a 14060?

... or an Explorer II 40mm?

I think that theres a good chance as the ends are quite pliable, fitted my SMP with no bother and at £21 its not a huge risk

Ordering mine tomorrow will be a useful one for the SMP and also being in the look out for my first Sub it will double for that too!

I bought a 22mm version from cousins to try on my Seiko diver, fitted an absolute charm. They look very similar to the 'Rolex' specific ones and the best bit is they're only £2.55 +vat

It's an excellent fit on a SD4000c but a pig of a job to get it on. I think it probably took me forty to fifty minutes to fit.

Im now thinking about one for for my JLC diver at this price.

It's served its purpose. I now know that I need never spend a fortune on either of the expensive options. It's an impressive strap, suits and fits the watch well etc etc but I'm just not a rubber guy.
If anyone wants it PM me.

I can confirm that the Cousins strap fits the 14060 Submariner.

The spring bars needed a bit of persuasion to fit through the holes, then it took a bit of time to get them seated in the lugs. But when fitted it's nice and snug, and I really like the look.

Cousin's cheapest delivery option arrived next day, following a 4pm order, so top marks to them too.

Has anyone else used the rubber strap on a submariner and if so how the hell do you get the spring bars into the rubber strap? I've been struggling the last 30 minutes and am giving up at this stage.

I don't remember seeing them before, but there's now a colour stripe option for these straps.

They're nowhere near as nicely finished as the Rubber Bs but they're great for the price.

However, I've just about given up trying to fit one to my SD4000. It's just not happening.

I'm a Swiss Made kind of guy. If its not stamped in the rubber I won't buy - Rubber B all the way.

Strange criteria. So because it isn't stamped on the strap you wouldn't wear an Everest?

Everest's first strap idea for Rolex wearers was a revolutionary rubber strap that would perfectly hug the case of a Rolex sports watch while also integrating with a Rolex Deployment clasp. Everest has evolved the idea of a Rolex replacement rubber strap over time and now we use Swiss vulcanized Rubber that is durable, resistant to dirt & dust, luxuriously finished, and incredibly comfortable to wear.
And you're missing out on the wonderful variety of Bonetto Cinturini's rubber straps too. Shame.
