    Speedmaster Service/Repair in West Yorkshire?

    Hi All

After moving house twice and not fiddling with my watches for about a year - i was gutted to find my 1967 speedmaster wont wind :0(

I dont really want to send it through the post system if i can help it, so can anybody recommend a decent repair shop in the west yorkshire area that i can take it to?

    Thanks

There's someone near J37 M1. Just into South Yorkshire ..

    Pastimes Antiques & Collectables
28 High St, Dodworth, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3RG
    Tel: 07891 136912

Maybe worth giving him a ring to see if he's still in the business. Malcolm I think he's called

Were it mine it would be sent to Omega Service Centre.

If you ring them they will send out a service pack, comprising travel case and post paid packaging direct to themselves. Couldn't be easier.

Defiantly not to be recommended unless you don't want to retain its value

www.Genesiswatchmaking.co.uk - sorted mine out and I believe they give discounts to forum members

PS: Ok in my mind it was round the corner from you but I realise he is in Brampton.....

+1. Swiss Time Services are the go to guys IMHO. Certainly not cheap, but absolutely top work.

I have an Ed White that's all original, lovely patina. Don't want anything changing about it at all. Just want to get the movement checked out to ensure it lasts another 50 years. Am I safe sending it to STS or would I be better sending to Genesis?

Well, STS do definitely listen to the customer. They are used to getting the older Speedies in, will not polish or refurb if you tell them you want it left original patina/wear. The UK authority on vintage Speedies rated them the best when I did my homework. Make sure you talk to them throughout the process.

    Here's a picture

Just had a message message back from Richard Askham

He's unable to fix it as he says omega are no longer supplying spares to 3rd party suppliers so independents like him are struggling to find the spares they need.

Looks like i will have no choice but to go to sts - bugger

OP's local to me, but had I been approached about this one I would've given the same answer. There's a lot of value tied up in watches like this and if a repairer makes a mistake the lack of parts can be v. embarrassing and costly. It puts people off taking on service jobs which (in principle) are straightforward, but in reality you've no idea what you'll find in a watch this age and the parts situation means it's not worth the hassle.

You choose to own 'em, you pay the service costs. STS are excellent but they have to play be Omega's rules and consequently they're not cheap. They are the best option for a watch like this.

    Paul
