Watches bought new that you still own

Being more of a flipper than a pod of dolphins, what watches are still in your collection that you bought new or unused from an AD/store/grey that you still own after a year (to ignore recent purchases)?

Of a current collection of 10 I've only these 2 that I have owned since new and are over a year old (2 more that are under, the rest used)

When I first started buying watches, I used to attach sentimental reasons for the purchase (probably to justify the cost). This means I have a load of watches I hardly wear but probably won't sell!
    2007 Longines Master Collection,
    2009 Breitling Chronomatic 49
    2011 IWC Aquatimer 2000
    2012 Bremont ALT1-C
2013 Rolex BLNR (I did sell this but bought it back)
    2014 Rolex 116600
    2016 Breitling Aerospace Evo

Orient Flight, the best quality/price I ever got from a watch.
I have worn it continuously for a half year, and time keeping was near perfect. Never been off more than 15 seconds.

    Hmmm, good question.
I have a collection of 21, of which five were bought new or unused, and of those - four are over a year old. Only apathy has stopped me trying to sell on some of these too, so they are certainly not 'keepers' because they got past 12 months!

I suspect the days of me buying new from an AD are well and truly over, I think I get more satisfaction from searching for the best vintage examples I can find/afford, they certainly seem to stick around far longer....

A pair of German autos with ETA movements:

All my other mechanicals are vintage. And smaller.

Both of them have sentimental value, which is probably why I bought them brand new in the first place, and wasn't worried about instant depreciation the moment I received.

I have my omega sea master co-axial, which was a gift from my father for my 21st birthday, around 8 years ago. Never going to sell this watch :-)

This one from 2000 with white dial, currently in possession of my better half.

This one from 2002 - worn mostly in summer.

When I initially saw this thread I thought it would be virtually nothing, but it turns out that there are a few that are two years or over:

    Franck Muller Taormina King
    Romain Jerome Moon DNA
    Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver
Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Triple Calendar
    Kemmner Tourbillon
    PRS20
    PRS30
    The obligatory Orange Monster.

Thanks Peck...it is the Zenith Captain El Primero 36000 vph chrono (ref 03.2110.400/01.C498), replaced the dark brown original strap & pin buckle, not sure if this exact model is still in production. It was a fairly long term aim and did not disappoint.

Wow that was a longer list than I thought, I keep on thinking about selling most of my watches to get one of the Omega's that keep on popping up on SC

I also have a couple of watches bought new in the last 12 months that are keepers, so if I see this thread again I'll be able to add them to the list.

I've just had the bug for a couple of years and haven't flipped any yet (and no plans to do so). Of those I own, I have had 4 for over a year (plus a few quartz): Omega Seamaster 300M ceramic, Speedmaster sapphire sandwich, JLC MUT Moon (black dial) and ALS 1815 Up/Down. Strange looking back to 2 years ago when £200 seemed a lot for a watch!

I have the same model, also from 1997. Purchased from a jeweller's in Geneva. Came with a blue leather strap that I still have but don't use (it lives on a NATO these days).

Watches bought new that you still own

    Maranez Layan
    Steinhart Ocean 44
    Breitling Navitimer World
    Omega Geneve Dynamic

I also have three bought less than 12 months ago that I fully expect to still own this time next year.

    That leaves 5 that I bought pre-owned...

Could you tell what strap that is?, have the same watch mine was a year or two earlier, hasn't been worn in ages and a strap like that could force it out of retirement.

An Omega Speedmaster 3510.50 and a Seiko 5 are the only watches I've had from new and I intend keeping them long-term. The Speedy was a long service gift from work in 2004, the Seiko was bought in Lanzarotte in 2003 for £32. Every thing else has been bought second hand, currently have around 21.

Same with cars, I don't buy new. Had two new-build houses over the years, not sure I'd do that again!

I almost never buy new, and the only exception that's still with me is an Omega AT quartz, which I bought in a panic when they looked like they were going to discontinue quartz completely. In the end they replaced it with the printed dial model, without the independent hour hand, at the same price. It turned out to be a pretty good call as a result - they've held up quite well in value.

I can't say I feel any differently about it to my other watches due to being the original owner, they all just feel like my watches. A fairly miserable time haggling with Goldsmiths, which involved walking out of the shop, and then watching them mangle the screws when resizing the bracelet added very little to the experience (an Omega boutique immediately fixed that for me free of charge). I doubt I'll buy new again unless it's a brand new model I just have to have. Perhaps it would make me think a little harder about selling the Omega though, so maybe there is a bit of a bond with it after all - it's replaceable but it's the only one I'll ever see that I bought new. Had I bought from a better store with pleasant customer service and a glass of something, I might remember the day more fondly, so it seems these things count.

Me, I'm a hoarder rather than a flipper, so...

Not bought BY me, but new for me in 1983!

My Jaquet Droz, seen with the Longines Hydroconquest I bought for myself 30 years later (and still firmly here).

I bought this Sinn EZM7S to cheer myself up (not sure why I needed cheering up now, so I guess it worked! ) back in 2015.

I probably won't sell it as I'd take a huge hit on the new price, I suspect!

I bought this from Creation in 2012, with a blue dial and bezel and a different movement! - Is it still the watch I bought new?

I also have a Dreadnought Voyager, bought in a bit of DN-hype and regretted for a while, but I 'bonded' with it on some long haul dive trips and it's now a favourite for such trips - I picked a meaningful serial No, so I probably won't sell it in a hurry.

I have a Sekonda that my wife bought me around 2005, which I used to wear to the gym in recent years, but rarely wear now.

I also have the following all bought new and over a year ago (some as long ago as 2012, when I first got the watch bug!):

    Citizen 300M Diver
    Tissot PRC200
    Marina Militare 44MM
Christopher Ward C11 Makaira Pro 500
    Sekonda blue 'Navitimer'

Aside from the Sinn above, most of my dearer watches have been purchased 'pre-loved'

Only ever bought new, currently have an SMP and a Luminox Polycarbonate that I use for travelling that are well over a year old.

Bought a sub c and PAM312 within the year which I'm planning to keep hold of too.

Prob buy a used exploer 1 at somepoint, don't like the 39mm.

My Grand Seiko SBGR053, bought five years ago as a one watch solution to replace a similarly styled Seiko 5 before finding lots of spurious reasons to buy more watches. I still wear it with a suit and as it was running the other day I wore it casually too and it really works on the bracelet. I have an original GS black leather strap and deployant but haven't tried it yet as the bracelet is so comfortable and beautifully finished.
