I know what you mean. But in all fairness there's only so much you can do with some of those overblown Swiss brands.

Bought like this (well, originally on a white stitched version) - way lighter and comfier than the bracelet, and WR too. I've tried various straps and this is unbeatable on the U1 imho

I suppose what is happening there is that from the start the mental image people have of the watch includes the possibility of a strap, so there's no affront to their sense of propriety by seeing one on it.

I'm wondering if the level of outrage at a strap is roughly speaking proportionate to the cost of the spurned bracelet? If the bracelet on your Rolega Mud Dweller cost you several hundred pounds, your desire to rationalise the cost will take comfort from the idea of its being essential to the watch.

Had my Tudor BB on this step for a while. Whilst I did enjoy it, I still prefer it on the bracelet.

That looks great, very classy. Since the OP is suggesting we "foam away", I'll add I profoundly dislike padded straps and this is proof once again that heavy sports watches look perfect on a flat stitched strap.

    Really like these combos too:

Curved ends for me... its a shark skin with s/s deployment. In this case, works well IMO and actually adds an element of curve to the often criticised Steinhart flat lugs:

Something I like about this one is that it makes the watch look very cute, brings out its thinness etc. Have you a wrist shot of it, too, please?

I haven't, no. Was messing with a friend entertaining ourselves for half an hour.
Didn't buy either strap as prefer the rubber, plus when buckled the thickness of the strap at the buckle was heavier than the head so unbalanced on the wrist.

Is it just me that is irritated by this combination. Not by the leather itself but by the fact that the strap is far too thick for the watch. The strap protrudes the lugs by a country mile. All wrong in my eyes.

    Certainly... Kerr Gibson from https://www.strap-works.co.uk/

He takes a Hirsch curved strap as the starting point - the hardware is great, with multi adjustable springbar positions. He then re-skins it in whatever you want. Cost around £70 plus a tenner or so extra for the deployment.

How do you find the curved ends fitting? Is it comfy? Almost pulled the trigger on leather Everest strap but what stopped me was how uncomfortable the original rubber strap is in my PO2500 (curved end also). It doesn't allow for free movement of the case around the spring bar, causing extra pressure on my wrist from the cutting edge of the case under certain angles, can even be painful if pressed against the bone.

Its REALLY comfy. The watch feels really light on it compared to on the bracelet. The only issue/feature (depending on if it bothers you) is that the 1st inch or so of the strap, from lugs outwards, is stiffened inside. Sort of like the stiffeners you'd find inside a formal shirt collar. This insert keeps a fixed curve shape to the strap and has the springbar hardware inside it.

Here's a random image I found online that explains this...

Plus side is that you can play about with that springbar block and get the strap to fit amazingly to the watch head.

EDIT: Oh... and these are a b**ch to get fitted! The perfect, tight fit may well look good, but you have a bit of a fight on your hands to get the spring bars into your lugs as a result. Well worth it though. Use masking tape to protect the lugs and its fine.

I see, so there is some room for adjustment at least. Thanks for the picture.

Absolutely, yes. You have the choice of those 2 spring bar holes and you can rotate that block any of 4 ways. It gets the strap right onto the case.

Thanks. I might try a Hirsch croc and see how I get on before taking the plunge with custom.

Not only you, was my thoughts also but wasn't going to mention anything. No offence to the poster, I'm sure I have plenty of combos other people wouldn't agree on.

I have no problem with sports or dive watches on leather, but there are plenty of examples in this thread I'm really not keen on. Each to their own I guess.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, the movable block to ensure a decent fit is called the Hirsch Leonardo system, may help with searches.

A Pav and a Stevo strap on a Longines. With a Stevo nato on the Tudor.

On a Pavel strap, with an SS butterfly

And on a Yellow Dog Nato

But best on the bracelet, I think - the SD sits too high to work with leather, I think.

Seamaster Chrono on Hirsch Heavy Calf. Looks okay but I'm thinking a new Isofrane would look and feel perfect.

I had been struggling to bond with my Speedmaster Pro, until I put it on a chunky brown Hirsch leather strap, now it's my favourite watch! Strange given I tend to lean towards bracelets....

Si far I've got these on leather straps and I'm on my way to add a dark green croc to a Kentex Marineman and a dark red suede leather to an SD43.
