I prefer to wear mine on a NATO (like most watches) or a repo NASA strap, (I really really really want to be an astronaut when I grow up.)
The bracelet is fine but nothing special
They do look best on a black leather strap when photographed though.

I must admit i have toyed with the idea of a black leather strap with some white stitching that would be ok for me i suppose,

I personally believe it looks nicer on a leather strap.

Have always had mine on a Hirsh Mariner. Owned it nearly 10 years and have never used the bracelet.

That looks like a great combo.

Which is surprising, given that I bet Omega sells 'em new on bracelets ten to one (at least) versus leather.

I tried mine on one of Eddie's NATO style straps with the deployant clasp and rather like it.

I have 3 Speedmaster Professionals that came with bracelets. The bracelets sit in the boxes while I wear the watches on leather. The OEM deployant and leather is supremely comfortable while the Omega bracelets never fit me well since there is no micro adjustment in the clasp. It helps that the Speedy looks great on a strap, practically any strap.

Bracelet, leather, kevlar, velcro. Depends on the Speedmaster model and my mood .

    Smile either

I do think it's a matter of personal taste. Either option looks good to me and depending on the event I can see a case for both. Perhaps I should have been a politician! #sitonthatfence

Surprising tough decision as I think they work well with both! Having said that my omegas are on straps.

What this thread needs is a photo of the OP's brother's speedie on the leather strap in question.

I wear mine on a black leather rally strap. The guy that's sits next to me at work has a slightly distressed brown bulang. Both look good in my opinion!

Bracelet. Just! My brother's on his third (bought and flipped etc) and I was admiring it last week when we met up but the bracelet just pips it for me.

To me, they look good on a bracelet but great on the right leather strap.

My vote is for the latter.

Leather for me, aged brown or rallye being the standouts. Looks great on just about all leather tho, I wear it on a black di modell to work.

I personally really dislike the bracelet and wouldn't wear at all if that were the only option. Just shows how tastes differ tho!

I wore mine like this for first few weeks, then stuck it on a rallye strap. Although the croc looks really smart I felt I was doing the watch an injustice and it deserves something with a bit more character.

Would still stick the croc on if I wanted to dress it up but I think it's more naturally a casual / smart casual watch. Given that I pretty much only wear sports watches that fits just fine in to my work attire.

Can see the reasoning here but straight end allows you to enjoy more of the watches natural beauty. The twisted lugs are a standout feature and i think you lose that a bit on the curved end. Even more so on bracelet.

Recently I was talking to him about its origins and that I think it's a better watch on a leather strap. He asked me to order him one and I thought it looked fantastic but he thought it looked terrible and made the watch look "cheap".

Whilst on the leather he'd been out with our mate (who also knows nothing about watches but owns several Omega, Breitling and Rolex) who said "what the hell is that strap?" in a mocking tone.

I was asked to put the bracelet back on.

I was also reading a Speedmaster thread on here last night where the consensus of opinion also appeared to favour the leather option. I have the Bulova Moonwatch and bought the non-bracelet version as it wore so much better and is more true to its origins.

So what do you think? Bracelet or leather or even nylon / nato? I used to wear mine on a sand nato and loved it.

I've set a quick poll to test opinion.

    Thanks for humouring me.
Wear it on whatever makes you happy. And politely remind them when they scoff that they know nothing about watches.

just depends on the weather my outfit and how I feel. Most omega can suit a variety

Seems simple really. Leather in a suit, bracelet in the park and Velcro on the moon. Though you can probably get away with mixing that up.

Should the Speedmaster be on leather or bracelet?

I just put this on last week and really like it. It's a BOB in dark brown (shows as almost black in most lights) with straight ends which I also prefer for some reason.

In the decade I've had it, I've worn the watch on its bracelet, but started to find it too fussy; then on a bulang NATO for which is was too heavy (terrible stretch in those things even if they are pretty); then Bond NATO; and then something cheap from Watch Gecko which seemed good value but the dye was really unstable so really just reminded me how nice the Bulang one was. I can't find photos of any of those as I'm on my work computer.

added a second photo to get it in the light

I voted other, purely from a personal perspective as I always prefer rubber straps - whatever the watch.

I voted for the bracelet option. While in photos, a nice leather strap beats the bracelet by a mile, I can't seem to find a proper strap+watch combination in real life. I own a brown Bulang and Son's, a black rallye, a couple nicer brown leather straps, and a couple of natos. Nah, don't really seem all that right to me on the wrist - the bracelet feels more like it belongs there. I don't know if it's the lack of weight that bothers me with leather straps on such a sporty watch, a lack of balance, so to say.

  33. #83
This is one of those watches that look equally as good on leather, bracelet or nato

I like both looks, sporty and dressy. In terms of comfort I prefer the bracelet in summer and the leather strap in winter.

Mines on leather. There’s always a Velcro too if you’re that way inclined...

Look great on either although, I always prefer leather on anything for comfort.

  39. #89
I wear mine on original bracelet too I sometimes wanted to try it on the Bond NATO but too lazy to change it.
As for leather strap, I think those sporty looking plain straps look rather nice too but not so sure about the dressy crocodile strap or shiny calf one.

Got a -69 and a modern 1861 movement with latest bracelet. The vintage I prefer on the strap as I don’t want to scratch up an old bracelet. I think it looks the business. The modern Speedie I wear on the bracelet as it’s excellent. Again it looks the business. I think the dial and hand colours suit themselves to either.

The best thing about the Speedy IMHO is that it's probably the most versatile watch head that I can think of; bracelet, Nato, leather, crocodile....it looks good on all of them. I have mine on the black Nato, but sometimes swap that for an Omega leather Nato. When funds allow I will expand the collection...on the Omega website there is a great configurator so you can have a play around with all the various straps they offer.

    Generally have mine on bracelet.

    However sometimes on leather.

Thanks to this thread. Popped on nato earlier, happy with the outcome!

Answer, who knows! Such a versatile piece.
