Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, 45, is found dead

not her biggest fan, but 45 years of age? very sad.

Tara Palmer Tomkinson has been found dead in a London flat following a battle with a brain tumour.
The 45-year-old former It girl revealed in November she had been receiving treatment for a non-malignant growth in her pituitary gland.
Police were called to a flat near Earl's Court shortly before 2pm this afternoon and found the former model dead. Her family have been told.

Just saw that on the BBC website. So young. As you said, not a fan but didn't deserve that.

I doubt it has little to do with the tumour. My wife was diagnosed in 1997 with the same condition and at the time we were told they were extremely rare nowadays it appears they are more common place. Very sad however.

interesting, as I was reading into this when she announced she had a tumour, and concluded she had a 'few years yet' I wonder if she has died of an overdose or something?

The tumours are not normally cancerous or grow any larger than around 10mm. They can however push on the gland and make it over produce a chemical called prolactin which in turn (and in my wifes case) cause imbalance with hormone levels which ultimately affect fertility. In some cases if they grow large enough it can affect the optic nerve and cause issues with vision. Thankfully my wifes was under control with drugs until they found out the drug could cause brittle bones!!
Its sitting at around 10mm currently and the docs are happy.

RIP Tara; such a shame. Regardless of her frailties she always came across as a very warm and likeable person. Very sad.

My now deceased father in law had an astrocytoma, nasty and drawn out. All but untreatable.

    Indeed...

I don't wish to speak ill, but she was mostly famous for scantily clad photos and rolling out of parties pissed.

No age though as Sounddood says.

To be honest though i thought she was a fair bit older!

    RIP

Didn't she appear in I'm a celebrity a few years back?

IIRC surprised a few people, myself included by how down to earth she was.....

tumours in that area of the brain can also cause thyroid problems, which in turn can affect your mood, lead to depression etc...

Sorry about your father in law

I was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma in August of last year. I had an awake craniotomy in October and thankfully the Neurosurgeon was able to perform a total resection and removed the entire tumour. I just finished a 6.5 week course of Radio therapy and am about to start a course of chemotherapy in tablet form. I have been informed that prognosis depends a lot on genetic markers. One in Particular is quite important. This is the IDH1 mutation marker for which I am positive. This is a good thing or so I've been told.

At the end of the day it's cancer of the brain but we are hopeful for the future.

Very sad. The people who make the party don't always get taken very seriously, but without them where's the fun in life? It sounds like she mainly just cheered people up so it's a pity that the story should end this way.

True enough, and you can say the same for most of the other half.

I know a lassy who looks like her, acts like her, and is totally bonkers too - just wonderful fun to be with :)

Really sad to hear this news :(

why do you think she was so happy the whole time. It essentially ruined her life...she spent lots of time in rehab and caused her mental issues.

Very sad , seems like she wasn't found for 5 days. I'm not sure what that says about her social circle.

I knew a TV producer who was extremely into his nose powder and partying. Hugely overweight. Died in his mid 30s from a suspected heart attack. Again it was several days before anyone found him.

Not something Ms P-T could have been accused of unless she's changed a lot in recent times!

Rather sad, though, as you say, if no-one missed her for days.

And found by her cleaner. I wonder how long it would have been without her. The rich and famous seem to have everything and nothing. All the close friends and family come out of the woodwork after a high profile death yet nowhere to be seen in the times of need.

What a desperately sad way to go. I'd have gone round to dust her mantelpiece. Maybe the rich and famous, in general, only want to hobnob with other rich and famous which rather reduces the size of the pond they're fishing in.

I'm struggling making sense of this one, what a sad situation.

Unfortunately too often it's the life and sole of the party who's suffering.

    Keep an eye out!
