Well, I've missed having a Sinn chronograph in the collection, and I've fancied a 756 Diapal since day one, so when the excellent DanielBB dropped me a line about trading watches, temptation got the better of me, and I'm now the proud owner of this amazing object:
Impressions so far are very favourable. The layout has always appealed, hence why I own Damasko's DC56
and DC57, but the Sinn adds GMT/UTC - quite the rarity amongst chronographs. There's also 'Diapal' for movement longevity, plus Sinn's characteristic anti-humidity capsule and Tegimented casework: quite the package.
Downsides are just two. She's a
bit of fat girl:
...at 14mm thick - emphasised by the slab-sides and relatively modest 40mm diameter. Adding extra complications (and hands) inevitably adds height, but the watch head tucks in well to the wrist, and I'm accustomed to chunky watches.
The other issue is - as so often with Sinn - a total lack of micro-adjustment to the otherwise excellent and comfortable bracelet. I have the choice between slightly too tight or far-too-loose, and nothing in-between. Sorry Sinn, your bracelets are frankly substandard: I owned a £300 Certina with a
vastly superior clasp. Sort it out!
Overall, this has a strong scent of "keeper" about it - the collection feels rebalanced with one less Damasko, and one extra Sinn, I didn't have a GMT watch (albeit I rarely
need it, either), I also didn't have a grey-dialled watch - and the understated distinctiveness of this design fits well with the collection.
