You have taken me back to the very early seventies, watching the wrestling on Saturday evenings with my Granny. She was outraged at the injustice, when the "good guy" lost and the villain won, but she loved it! I remember McManus and the blonde wrestler 2nd from the left, who was in the terminology of those days, a "pansy" but was also a really nasty piece of work. Even at the age of 8 or so I could tell it was fixed, but I couldn't convince my granny of that. :)

Yes, it's funny how animated my 72 year old and unwell granny became watching it!

I too watched it with my grandmother who loved it - becoming very animated especially when Mick McManus made an appearance. "Pull his ears!" she would shout "he doesn't like that!"

The blond one is Adrian Street. His gimmick was flouncing around like a pansy (acceptable term in the 70's) in reality like the rest of them he was as hard as nails. He went on to wrestle in America into his early 70's and according to Google now runs a wrestling costume business there.

I always liked to watch Les Kellet, who played the punch drunk clown much of the time only to land the killer move at a critical time. Again, reputed to be a real hard man despite his village idiot persona in the ring.

They don't make entertainers like these guys anymore.

I saw a picture of Les Kellet with a donkey in a headlock once. Made me laugh.

Are you old enough to remember the eldorado wrestling hall in leith near the state picture house (never a cinema in those days) and the Leith Hospital and its Nurses Home??

A combined cap and spud gun. The slight increase in pressure caused by the cap going off would be enough to expel the spud for quite a distance.

I suspect that you would be arrested for taking one to school these days. We used to carry then in our blazer pockets and shoot each other on a regular basis.
I had one in Derringer stylee.
But I got bored and turned it into a 'Zip gun' that would fire .22 rimfires. Them were the days.

I noticed, and have just read through the whole thread again.

Still as apropos as ever but a lot of the old regulars seem to have disappeared.
    Cheers,
    Neil.
