Plenty of nice watches with black dials and black cases, but blacked out has no appeal to me. They are all a bit "tactical try hard"

Black watches, my preferred choice. Just sold my last stainless Panerai. I also like marmite watches - look away now!

I think Breitling make the best Blacksteel watches... I really like the new blackbird with its clean look

"Blacked out" watches, I've had a few.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The current crop...

Autodromo Group B Evoluzione "Night Stage":

Among G-Shocks, there's black and then there's "Basic Black":

(Not only do models in this collection have black cases and reverse LCDs, they're also devoid of any extraneous writing.)

IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar "Top Gun":

JLC Navy Seals Diving Alarm "Incursion":

Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver "RedBar":

Gone from the collection, but most definitely not forgotten (indeed, if I had the budget, I never would've sold any of them)...

    IWC Aquatimer Chronograph "Galapagos":

(The vulcanized rubber used to coat the case was exceedingly durable on this sucker -- in the year or so that I owned it, it didn't show any wear whatsoever.)

    IWC Doppelchronograph "Top Gun":

    Seiko MarineMaster 1000M:

    Sinn 142 S:

    Sinn U1000 S:

    UTS 600M Chrono:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I get that some are vehemently against PVD/DLC/ceramic, but as you can see, I'm not one of them. Vive la difference!

    Regards,
    Adam

I like it too, don't be ashamed!

I wouldn't buy it at the prices they're at, but it'd make a great casual watch

A TAG Carrera was my first automatic watch (sadly sold) I do think they do a few nice pieces in a sea of junk! It's a shame as some of the Ltd editions/collaborations are just awful..

Like you if they price was better I'd get it, I'd bite at around 3-3.5k but not £4600 they do the Tourbillion version for around 12k

I've owned in excess of 30 tag heuer, and whilst I love them and wear them, very quickly they're sat in the watch box and they inevitably end up worn by my wife or son, or flogged to pay for something else.

The only exceptions to the rule are the re-issues/remakes. My Monaco is STILL my favorite watch (although I acknowledge it's not the best!) and the modern Autavia I have still looks fantastic when worn (rarely) but apart from a couple of beaters, that's my whole Tag Heuer collection now.

All in all I just think Tag's modern offerings are less distinctive and look too much like other (cheaper) offerings.

I think they're missing a trick, with no £595 F1 model (cheap slick 3 hander on a rubber strap with colored dials and bezels) that would bring people "into" Tag.

It doesn't seem so long ago a Carrera 3 hander started at £1095

Not my pic but this is the Carrera I had I think it was around £2,400 at the time, it's titanium with a carbon fibre effect dial sold it to by my first Sub but didn't realise until I tried to reaquire one it was a limited edition and have only ever seen one other (obviously plenty out there somewhere)

Avoid the painted in DLC bezels!

From my research I found they don't hold up very well a combination of getting the paint to adhere to the DLC and the volume of paint required to get the white finish on the black background left then prone to chip and fade.

    Nice watches!

I have been considering a black watch for some time but at the end l always withheld myself. Watches that I wear regularly have nicks and nicks don't look nice on a black watch.
