Really feel for you. Have been there and just reading these threads brings back the memories like it was yesterday. It is such a huge loss for the family.

Barney had a great innings and sounds like you are a great dog owner.

    RIP.

Sorry to hear, he got to a good age though. I'll be gutted when our cavalier king Charles goes. He is 12 at Christmas.

Sorry to hear your news Jason. I know how you feel as we had to make the same decision with regard to our Springer last Summer. For what it's worth the pain does lessen. Especially when time allowes you to look back on all the good times you had with your dog. Especially remembering just how crazy and funny Springers can be.

Time will bring you peace and leave you with the special memories.

    All the best

    Sean

So sorry to hear this Jason - he was a lovely dog and, like you say, so immediately friendly.

    Gutted for you mate :(

A painful and heart rendering read Jason. My family and I know and feel your pain from recent times - or do it still feels. Raw!

May Barney bark loud and long with the enjoyment and friendship you all gave him as a loving family shining in his eyes.

    RIP Old Boy indeed.

Really sorry to hear your sad news. Our dogs give us so much joy and ask for very little in return. Our current dog is a re-homed Yorkie 9 years old, said we wouldn't have another one having lost our Border Terrier last year. Dogs get you out walking a least twice a day, they bring a smile to your face and sometimes a tear to your eye.
Love them to bits. Remember all the happy times with Barney. Thinking of you.

My Boxer Dylan went earlier this year, this thread and the John Lewis ad have made it an emotional night. May the joy Barney brought live long after his passing.

Must be dusty in here - my eyes seem to be watering a bit.

Dogs give us so much, not least of which is absolute, total, unconditional love. Is it really surprising that we feel such pain when they go?

I've said it before and I'll no doubt say it again, my dog died nearly 40 years ago now and I miss him almost every day.

My thoughts are with you - RIP Barney

We lost our border terrier Pip in identical circumstances a year ago today, i feel your pain and loss. Thought we wouldn't get another dog it was that hard, but a couple of months ago we got a rescue dog who is a wonderful companion. The upside of our dogs makes the downside just about bearable.

Really sorry to hear this Jason.

Sounds like you gave him a great life and family home- and as time goes on you'll take comfort from that.

I lost my oldest, Archie (just over 15 and a half) in May and am still 'shaken' by the loss.
I miss him a lot - but it does get easier.

    RIP Barney. X
