YM2 both SS and TT variants in the window of Fraser Hart in Kingston. They do look utterly hideous to be fair

I doubt they’ll be queuing round the block to buy £25k Daytonas in Swansea.

Milgauss GV (black dial) and a steel YM in an AD in Houston a few weeks ago. Nothing much else other than various Datejusts, and prices no better than UK with woeful FX rates and VAT factored in. Very nice assistant though and happily chatted about watches for half an hour or so and showed me lots of lovely pieces from Moser and a few other brands.

Forgot to ask if it was actually for sale or just display as there wasn't any price on it.

Funnily enough I bought one of these just last week, my usual AD said it’s “an allocation piece” and they’d do their best get me one before Christmas but ten minutes on the phone and I found one just ten miles away.

My usual AD did offer to hold a SS/RG YachtMaster for me though, and while it wasn’t to my taste by the time I rang them back to purchase it for a colleague an hour later it had sold.

Two-Tones/Bi-Metals may not be as popular but they are out there.....
Having said that even they don’t hang around long.

Not in a window but in a Lincoln auction next week: https://auctions.goldingyoung.com/m/...log%2Fid%2F562

    Estimate £8000 to £12000.

I’m somewhat of a novice in Rolex tradings but have always dreamed of a brand new dated Sub

I assume sourcing one in the UK from an AD is pretty slim without a long wait.

    Would that be the case?

Yes. Expect a year or so unless you get lucky.

Also expect to not actually go on a list, merely leave your details as an expression of interest, which will probably be ignored unless you buy other items from that AD.

A Rolex AD would never display Rolex watches in this way.
You’ll probably find that BLNR is about £14,000 lol

Am I right in thinking that you pay 20% vat on return to the U.K. ? Off topic but is there generally anything worth buying at Heathrow (T5) price wise? Didn’t know if they did discounts on any watches? On any brands.

That’s what I thought. Does that make them the same price, cheaper or more expensive? Are there any deals on any brands?

Or rather, if you are UK resident for tax purposes, and you are not permantly exporting the item(s).
It's just a matter of time...

Sort of. My understanding is that 20% VAT is payable and additionally a further amount for Customs Duty is due.
What’s the rate for Customs duty? Well that’s tricky as it depends on the type of item, the material it’s made from, whether there are set stones and value. The gov.uk website advises that their helpline (0300 200 3700) is used to determine the Customs Duty rate. VAT is payable on the Customs Duty.

When I last used the helpline a few years ago iro a Middle East import, I was surprised to find that the Customs Duty rate on a gold watch was lower than that for a steel watch.

My knowledge of Duty is flakey so please don’t take the above as gospel. Anyone seriously considering importing and declaring, would find it worthwhile calling the helpline to estabish costs. Which may be Brexit dependant.

In practice there will be no Customs Duty to pay on a single watch. Only VAT.

In principle, the rate of Customs Duty charged on all watches is 4.5% but it is bracketed in a peculiar way, limiting it to a maximum of (iirc) about €0.80 per watch. This means that, in practice, Customs Duty is only actually charged on large shipments of watches.

I haven't looked to see if or how this will change after 31/10/2019 in light of the government's new tariffs.

Moot anyway since there hasn’t been anything interesting in any of the Heathrow shops for years, at least that I’ve seen. Although they have said a couple of times that I’ve just missed something so maybe a few trickle through

We have a shortage in part because of tourists buying up rolex models as they take advantage of their beneficial exchange rate.

Can you point me in the direction of some shops in HK or Tokyo where I can buy some BLRO/BLNR/Daytona with 20% markup? I am going to book a flight and complete my collection.

Some of the greys are discounting Rolexes (albeit ones that they have marked up significantly) over the last couple of days. So maybe some of the extreme silliness has come down to mere stupidity levels.

I waited around 2 months for mine earlier this year with no previous purchase history but my AD is implying that they are becoming more desireable and so the waiting lists might be getting longer. That might not be the overall national picture in the U.K though, just local to me.

Goldmiths in Oxford Westgate had several Rolexes on display, Cellini, Milgauss, etc yesterday - all with prices so presumably available to buy.

Kinda given up following Rolex after too much boot leather wasted in vain looking around empty ADs across the world. So, no idea if these are widely trickling out yet... new DJ 36 black face from Basel release was in Suvarnabhumi yesterday.

Beautifully proportioned. But at £7k, I’m out.
