Surprised to see a few sports models in the Rolex store in Portofino Italy. They had an explorer, milgauss, white explorer 2 a few yacht masters , air king and the new 36mm datejust.

Nice AD to deal with too. Mark, the Rolex Manager, in particular is a very helpful guy to know. Sometimes he works wonders within the WOS empire, securing their very hard to get pieces.

Dealers will try too convince everyone that this will be a must have when Rolex discontinue it and suddenly demand will soar for one of the design disasters of the Rolex catalogue.

The unified Rolex in the window thread

Explorer, Explorer 2, 2 steel oyster perpetuals(one inside), white dialled Milgauss and a two tone sub in Rennes.

Might pop in for a chat in my bad French!

I thought the white dial Milgauss was discontinued a while ago??

Obviously not a popular buy in Rennes if it has been in the window for that long!

I'd thought so too. However, I quite like the look of it. Really hankering after a white dialed watch atm.

Here's the question - as it's discontinued shouldn't they be selling it at the RRP which won't have changed as it's not a current model? For the anal here does that constitute paying above list?

Just popped in to Bedford to drop some paperwork off and on impulse walked round to John Bull & Co to have a quick squiz in their window. Quite a few DJ 41's, a couple of steel / platinum YM's one mid size and one full and a bunch of OP's including a lovely grape dial. Didn't think to get pictures as I was parked controversially but might be worth someone's time.
The jewelers a few doors down had an explorer but it was pre-owned but under 5k if memory serves.

Be aware that VAT is due on Swiss purchases and the pound has taken a pounding against Swiss Franc of late
I know of 1 shop that has an office in Germany so they can be sent from there as a way around it.

Hi Hood. I was speaking to someone selling a 43mm SD on Chrono24. They live in the uk but purchased it in Switzerland. I asked about vat a few days ago and they replied as follows ďthere is no issue with vat and no import duty for buying in Switzerland.Ē

I did a bit of digging but didnít really get any clarity on it all. My main concern was resale and servicing etc if it leaves the country.

Hood is correct, Switzerland is outside the EU and any purchase will attract 20% VAT plus couriers fees on arrival in Blighty. I know, I was stung earlier this year buying a Steinhart LE from a Swiss AD.

Any import duty / vat lies with the importer so you're fine if the watch is already in the UK.

Was through Schippol on Wed past and noticed that they'd changed up the display cases. Instead of having 4 cases with pillow displays for maybe 20-25 watches each, they've put in 4 x displays that hold about 9 each. Still not a great look when a dedicated shop barely has any stock.

Rolex dealer in Ulan Bataar has in an SD43 at a rather eye watering £13,500, plus the buyer is required to buy a ďclassicĒ Rolex too. When I said that seems quite a lot over list price (Djís were slightly cheaper than UK list) he just shrugged.
Things are a little different here....

Isnít Chrono24 and eBay prices lower than £13.5k? Or am I missing something...

I didnít want to start a dedicated thread because it would cause all the usual consternation, so thought this would be the best thread for a quick bit of advice...

Does anyone have a view as to the average waiting time for a green Sub?

I donít have a purchase history with an AD, but I do own an older Sub and would not come across as a profiteer due to the sentimental reasons for purchase...

Foolís errand or? I realise that this isnít a question which can be answered accurately, and that it depends on what happens with the market and availability.

One thing Iíve read is to visit a non-London AD and be specific as to what you want, have the cash ready, etc - which all makes sense.

Donít waste your time. You could call every AD in the U.K. and you would get two replies. 1,NO 2, about 3 years but you would never get the call. With no punches history this is a grey market watch.
