Chatted to 2 of the biggest trade to trade dealers in UK last night who both confirmed the rapid decline with developments this week going to ripple fast. Make sure you want what you buy is my advise, which is why you should be buying anyway but if its an investment portfolio then expect poor returns or losses for quite a while.

Anyone got a copy of the old high demand, very high demand, classic list that Rolex produced before it was discontinued?

Interesting, it was always going to happen, just a matter of when and how much.

Need the list to open up first before I can be in any danger of being able to have a bauble on my wrist at some point for my 50th.

Has been said often, and I believe it's true, that once the prospects of an easy sizeable profit from flipping a new Rolex disappears, so will (pick a number) 75% of the "list".

I was going to say "I hope so" but, like a lot of people, the madness of the last few years has definitely significantly dampened my enthusiasm. That and the regular stories about street robberies.

How wise to this do we think the thieves are? Like will Rolex become less of a target if the demand (and therefore value) decreases? If they become more readily available?
We bought my fiancée a Rolex recently and this has been a concern of mine.

Even if they become more available - they are still going to be worth a decent sum for very little "work" and so would still be a target - partly because they at least know what they are.

What developments this week? Have I missed something or is it something still under wraps

Yeah I heard the same from my AD, basically the 'no chance you are getting a celebration dial OP' is now 'probably 6 months but I can get you an Explorer within a couple of weeks'.

Also same AD now has SS DJ stock ready to buy (no green dial sadly)

    That would be interesting

I’d love Rolex to come out and ban dealers holding stock in a safe for “favoured” customers and do it on a list only basis ie first come first served

Seems good as I have my name down for a blue dial DJ 36 with fluted bezel

Hopefully this will help the grey market prices come down as well

Honestly should be a central list with Rolex who would let you know when your watch is ready and from which dealer most local to you to collect

Turned this down a couple of months ago because I had bought one pre owned.

I'd been waiting about 6 months

6 months for a celebration OP. These sell for well over double list.

Of course but grey just buy cheaper sell
Cheaper. Prices are changing very rapidly so a cautious approach to buying will see even more available for those who actually want them to wear.

None of this should be surprising to people. It wasn’t that long ago people said this would never happen. I still hold hope almost all but the very desirable watches across all brands are readily available soon. Certainly feels like we are on the way there.

    Here’s hoping

When I got my first watch on 2016/2017 the only one that wasn’t in a window was a Daytona

I remember nearly buying a sub from a European grey dealer for 4K

Maybe people will go back to the good old days of bad mouthing datejusts if they are readily available.
    Explorers and Airkings too.
I think we are a long way off GMTs becoming available in steel and saw chatter about ADs having vitually zero supply of Pepsis.
Was rumoured something about the red pigment on bezel being a problem.

Didn't ask to be fair as I want the celebration OP but thought it was hilarious that a month ago there was no way to get me on an 'expression of interest' list for an Explorer for an AD I've spent over £40k with over the past 2 years and now they are basically starting to wake up and smell the coffee

    For now maybe.

But once the heat dies out of the market and these are just a gaudy dialled OP and not a meal ticket then demand will be just those folks who want a gaudy dialled OP which will be a much smaller market.

Seems that way as the first red on the BLRO was almost pink so they do seem to have some level of difficulty getting it consistent.

I've been on a list for a green for 18 months. Not a sniff. This is an AD that I don't really have a relationship with but have had watches from them.

The thing with the green is whether it is discontinued like the yellow and coral.

I only called Goldsmtihs last week for a chat and update on the LV sub list. Obviously time to call them again then. Fingers crossed it is open again. Any hint as to when in the week?

    No idea. Typically deliveries are
Fridays and notification 2 days before but you will need to discuss with them if you have a registered expression of interest.

Similar story here, but it's the only dial colour that I'd consider from the SS DJ lineup.

    Thank you.

I’m not even at the start line as the EOI list is closed currently.

I need this bit first, then the 50th discussion.

At least if supply is high, profiteering is low it could leave me open to a BNIB option grey at a decent price maybe.

Although Wiley’s Sub LV colour comment is toying in the back of my mind.

Rolex are a watch wholesaler, not retailer. They have zero interest dealing with end users so that’s why they have AD’s to retail their products.

As a result Rolex do not control which retailers sell to which customers…..and that’s not going to change anytime soon due to the success of the wholesale supply chain that Rolex operate.

I know this to not be correct. With certain models the manager decides, with some the regional manager decides which stock to which store and which client the manager plans to sell it to.

This alleged extract from an ADs checklist may help understand the steps.

[Deleted the extract from the checklist.]

Pretty Much excludes first time buyers from getting a new Rolex. Was going to pop into one but don’t think I’ll bother now !

"The client must have a robust bio[graphy] written and kept....."

Difficult to know how they could justify that to the ICO as "necessary data" to be storing about someone wishing to buy a watch.

Heaven help them when Nigel Farage finds out they've by-passed his request for a Sprite !

Interesting screenshot. I’m guessing if you haven’t got a rolex in the last 12 months you drop down a tier and might even have to work your way back up with a DateJust or two tone SkyDweller?

    Air King is your friend.

TBH with a much softer market (my local M&W had a blue DJ available to buy) I reckon the rules will change rapidly and they'll apply that to Daytona, Pepsi, SS Skydweller etc

The 'regional manager' is not a Rolex employee. You're screenshot is describing the internal process of an AD deciding how to allocate watches within their network, nowt to do with Rolex allocating to customers.

Correct, I don’t think I said they were. My understanding is that for the high demand the regional manager will discuss with Rolex.

I would doubt there is any discussion with Rolex about allocations to individuals.
