To get people through the door.
Firstly, a year ago every Rolex that came into stock had a buyer, even unpopular models were sold instantly with little effort as buyers knew they could offload to a grey dealer for a profit. That's now changed, grey dealers are paying around list, or a little over for most models, and below list for two-tone and gold pieces. So the ADs now have to work a little harder to sell those two-tone DJs, and Airkings.
Secondly, Goldsmiths still want to sell jewellery and other watches so getting people in store who enquire about a new Submariner, may be told that they'll have a good chance of getting one shortly if they were to buy a pair of diamond earrings or Cartier watch.
Called into the Rolex Boutique (hut size) early this morning and caught them just as they opened. There were quite a few pieces dotted around the windows, with none of the usual "exhibition only" signs displayed
Had my eye on their Green Oyster Perpetual and was rubbing my hands as I walked in only to be told "sorry not for sale" :) Oh well, joyous albeit only for a minute
Exhibition only signs in evidence at Goldsmiths Meadowhall. Spent a pleasant 45 minutes chewing the fat, drinking their coffee and looking at Sports watches that I cannot buy.

Got the call today for an Explorer II Polar Dial.
Not 100% certain it’s for me at this point. If I don’t want it; does anyone want me to pick it up on their behalf?

Plenty of new watches on display at Bangkok International Airport but zero for sale.
Asked about the 2 I’d buy on the spot if available but the SA said they cannot/will not sell.
I get it in an AD, but in an airport concession WTAF is the point if there’s nothing for sale whatsoever. It’s a purely transactional outlet in an airport but serves as a brand museum in this case
Quite a few for sale in PT AD. Mostly all gold (silver, rose, yellow) and a variety of DJ with diamond indices etc. Bi-metal as well. Didn't see anything in steel for sale except for an AirKing.
I was reading their new (temporary) manufacturing facilities go online this year, 2025, which build started in 2023 https://hypebeast.com/2023/3/rolex-s...factories-info, but I am sure Rolex will not flood the market?
“ Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.” HHGTTG
Not exactly. I wanted a GMT as I do actually travel abroad a fair bit. I asked about the Explorer II as a second choice. I’ve yet to see a Polar in the flesh and, of course, it’s 42mm not 40mm. So I may not want it when I get there.

In Copenhagen and some nice watch shops ,Rolex only show no buy , plenty of used but quite steep
Oldoak may be referring to two tone or gold GMTs, which are not difficult to get hold of, at all.
All iterations of the steel GMT are not easy to get hold of, even when you are on the mythical list. Your local AD may well be Meadowhall (which is one of the larger ADs across the country and probably gets more GMTs than most).
Had a chat with my usual AD about the availability of the Daytona that ive been waiting for for around 10 months. Basically is there any chance of anything in the next few months.
The answer was the usual " you never know as things can change " type reply which was fair enough but they did offer me the 126619lb blue sub but at £40k a bit out of my price bracket .

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
