I saw those too, exhibition ones clearly marked. I did want to try them on but saw a few people inside and couldn’t be bothered to wait

Do you know how easy a gold Skydweller is to get? It’s my ‘lottery win’ watch.

I’d imagine it depends on which gold. Rose gold with slate dial extremely hard to get, yellow gold with white face a bit easier to get, for example.

May be wrong as I’ve not looked into it, but that’s my guess.

If you win the lottery you’ll be ok.

Just buy a few less desirable watches with it and give them to friends.

No clue, sorry. A friend managed to get one a few months ago at a London AD in rose gold, pic below, didn't seem to have to wait long for it. A month or two I think.

I tried one on in yellow gold on Oysterflex a few months ago and that was stunning. Didn't think I would like it but it couldn't stop staring at it. Not a yellow/rose gold person though.

    Thanks all.

That rose gold one is absolutely lovely! Your friend is a very fortunate person.

Is that yours? Lucky man if. So, gorgeous piece imho.

A work colleague bought one for just under £19k iirc last year. A few people scoffed at him for overpaying….

Yes it’s mine. When it was launched I saw it at a Rolex event and wasn’t totally sure on it if I’m honest. A few months later when I enquired it had become quite sought after and not sure if people will recall, but there was an issue with the blue on the dial and for a while there weren’t any being released. They offered me a white dial which is also a fantastic dial so I took that. Roll on last summer ( 2 1/2 to 3 years since I enquired) they offered me the blue and I love it. I’m fortunate enough to have some fantastic watches but wonder if I could only keep one, this might well be it.

Edit: if your mate had the money then why not, beats waiting years and not being able to wear it. He’d probably get his money back too.

The Deep Blue is the one I regret selling the most. Well, I say say sell but I swapped it for my Submariner Kermit (50th anniversary).

I'm going to have to get another one at some point.

One of the greats. Usually reserved for Friday's and weekends, but I wore it for almost a month recently and couldn't wait to swap it over for the Sub.

The unified Rolex in the window thread

No gents models for sale at LHR T5 today.
    Only ladies models.

Many empty display cabinets & ‘Exhibition Only’ notices on most items that are on display.

I went to the reading store and tried the green op41 one evening when it was very quiet. It is a really nice day watch.

The initial sales guy could not be bothered to deal with me and got an assistant to show me the watch.

Was in WoS Cardiff this lunchtime and it was mental. Literally teenagers coming in giving it the 'let me buy that black Rolex innit' If I heard 'sorry sir it's not for sale' once, it must have been 8 times in half an hour.

The other Cardiff AD won't let you in unless you've got an appointment or are 'known'. I can see why.

But according to Posty Mick, they have improved and raised their market position - innit?.

Which probably explains the fact they seem to be rated as a must have in all sections of society. Market position doesn’t have to mean only appealing to what someone considers the right part of society.

Now getting to the stage where we need just ONE thread for everything ‘Rolex’

Just bung everything in there, as every thread ends up the same.

Totally agree. There are people on zero hour contracts that are two months behind on rent desperate for a two tone SD43.

They would have aspirations just like anyone else. I was brought up in a working class family in a council house, and whilst I had a happy and well cared for childhood doesn't mean I didn't want something more, and would work to try to achieve it.

Well this thread is called "The unified Rolex in the window thread" so will probably have Rolex content.

I can see how people who don't like Rolex might get fed up reading about them. Just quickly looking though, out of the first 25 threads in Watch talk, 21 had no Rolex mention in the title. So surely plenty of scope for discussing other watches?

    Is this thread now defunct?
Rolex are filling every window with unobtainable temptation and any used Rolex has cold water poured on it which equals nothing to see here!

Plenty of dealer talk in here so I will just mention Cambridge Mappin and Webb. I was in picking up my new watch today and as ive had a fair bit of dealings with them during small talk I mentioned my wife to Sally saying she was poorly. Thought nothing more of it until I was just leaving and SAlly come in carry a nice bunch of flowers for my wife.
    really nice flowers .
Yes I spent a fair bit of money in there but they didn’t have to so a little bit of credit when it’s due I say.

Not that it really matters but is that true in all cases? My impression is that some are (or have been) genuinely non-functional models, i.e. the kind of thing that watch sales reps used to use.
