Pretty sure AD's are getting the same amount of watches to sell as previous years. Don't feel sorry for the staff –*the grey dealers are getting plenty of new stock, it's got to be coming from somewhere. Staff are making their commission and a little bit extra too.

    Can I help you sir?
Yes, I’m aware that buying a Rolex is not straightforward but I noticed you had a couple of exhibition pieces in the window and I was curious about trying on an Oyster Perpetual.
Yes, we have a 41,36 and 34 to try. These are registration pieces only, I hope you understand. Would it be your first Rolex?
    Yes, it would.
How wonderful. I’m afraid we don’t accept walk-ins but I’d be happy to book you an appointment to try one on.
Errrr. Right you are. Bye then.

The store was completely empty. Just me, the shop assistant and a security guard. All stood around, doing nothing and the watches were visibly in reach. Never heard of making an appointment to try a watch on that you can’t buy. Maybe it’s just a step to stop time wasters like me going on lists on a whim but honestly, how silly!

    Edit:
This might be normal. It was a shock to me though.
Yeh, essentially they couldn’t be bothered.
Typical for Rolex ADs these days.

Something I heard the other day from within the industry confirmed the last sentence except it’s not “ a little bit “ extra.

Hot watches from 2022 are being offered on Facebook groups like there’s no tomorrow. They must be coming from somewhere!

I think some very mean comments about ADs here. They are lovely people and doing their level best to delight the enthusiast with the watch of their dreams.

    Or a 'suitable alternative'

This is what I got from my local AD a few months back when trying for the super in-demand (apparently) 34mm OP... I didn't make a follow up appointment with this particular AD.

I think it wears too small on my chunky wrists, but I’ll put up with it.

Nice, I’m waiting for the same one - it was the first Rolex I wanted and I’ve still never owned a white dial ss daytona.

Lucky you, I’m not even allowed on the list & it’s my dream watch.

Love the tweed by the way!

Nice…I’m very jealous, they also wouldn’t entertain even putting me on the list for a Daytona …. One day!

That has always been my impression when I've tried on a Daytona. Not having a date is also a problem for me. That said, it looks gorgeous.

An AD told me that there was a 10 year wait list and they aren’t even taking registers of interest any more. I get the impression these watches are very few in production and only go to people who buy the full gold Rolex watches.

PSA: 1967 1016 Explorer for sale at James Usher Lincoln. No papers from what I understand.
No affiliation, just a a heads up if anyones looking.

Have been asked by my old boss where to get a sub as he knows I like watches. Replied saying not much hope unless through grey market or buying other models while he waits, reading this thread shows I wasn’t wrong!

Market Cross jewellers today had around 50 Rolex in their window display and every single one of them was reduced. Times are changing. Has the bubble burst?

  23. #3323
Prices are definitely softening but still above retail from my enquires to the trade when considering selling a Green Bezel Submariner.

Good. I managed to get a ND Sub today from Mappin and Webb. To wear! Buying a Sub because I want to wear it. Strange I know!

Hopefully I'll be able to get a Daytona soon. Again, to wear. Madness I know!

"Wear" to you is like 'try on' for anyone else.

I'll give it six weeks max.

I look forward to the reason.

It’s just not worth all the hassle advertising on SC at even trade buy in price on a newish Rolex.

Went through LHR T5 at the weekend. One Ladies DJ 28mm actually for sale in the WoS Rolex Boutique.

Plenty of exhibition watches of course including a Submariner Date Bluesy, a Deep Sea, Sea Dweller and a Daytona of some description (I didn’t take much notice of it)

Was very taken with the Sea Dweller though. Salesman was keen to check if I have WoS purchase history (I don’t). He asked if I flew regularly (not much since retiring) and suggested that I build some history in their other shop buying maybe a Longines for around a grand, a Tissot for £300, a Tudor for a couple of grand etc and then maybe I’d be able to be on the list for a Sports Rolex. An SD might be acquired after around six months wait. But I’d need to agree a date within seven days of receiving the call and book a flight etc to get there

Nope. You must prove your dedication to going on the list by going away and coming back at a time that suits the AD so that they might honour you with an opportunity.

It’s fine, like I said, I’m not really looking to buy anyway and I was expecting a slightly snooty shopping experience but that was a bit much.
I have to say that the expression ‘Merchant Bankers’ come easily to mind!

Last time I enquired about a Rolex at my local AD I was told they were no longer adding any names to lists irrespective of model.

You can imagine my surprise when 2 years later I’ve just received a call offering me the watch I initially enquired about.

If you’re getting a Daytona at list price (less than half grey price), you’ll pay their chosen method lol
    That’s likely their attitude anyway

You should of offered it up here for RRP (it is Xmas you know), it would have sold no problem haha.

Heathrow T2 had a couple of options, non of interest to me though. Gold skydweller, two tone seadweller, and some ladies pieces.

GMT and sub lists still closed since last Yr.

It was nice to hear that they actually had something. sign of the times
