Give it a year and all premium over retail will be gone, it’s just a Rolex OP, crazy

Yep.completed. they also had 2 of the 36mm ones last week but I guess they are easy to get

  3. #2003
I think the 36mm are meant to be tricky to get too (or so I was told by the ad I was using) I’ll need to keep my eye out next time I pop into Kingston. If you see a 36mm green dial or 41mm yellow dial when you’re passing by please drop me a pm anytime!

I think that shows we are into peak b*llocks! Not only can you not get the watch that you want, we'll put one in the window and taunt you!!

As a (now increasingly less) Rolex fanboy, I honestly don't get it!

Yeah, sounds weird the way you put it but calm down if you can ... just watches :)

For clarity, I have no idea if those 2 I posted pictures of were in the window or brought out from a safe. I wasn't interested before and that hasn't changed despite now realising they are waitlist watches. I was just there for a non-Rolex reason, they suggested I see some of the new Rolex offerings and I thought no harm even though I didn't like those colourful OPs in pictures.

Bait and Switch - I am not a lawer but ..

I am amazed that the dealerships are not falling foul of consumer law. In UK there is "Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008" which states:

    5. Making an invitation to purchase products at a specified price without disclosing the existence of any reasonable grounds the trader may have for believing that he will not be able to offer for supply, or to procure another trader to supply, those products or equivalent products at that price for a period that is, and in quantities that are, reasonable having regard to the product, the scale of advertising of the product and the price offered (bait advertising).

    6. Making an invitation to purchase products at a specified price and then—

(a)refusing to show the advertised item to consumers,

(b)refusing to take orders for it or deliver it within a reasonable time, or

(c)demonstrating a defective sample of it,

with the intention of promoting a different product (bait and switch).

And that’s generous, thank you - but is the point of the thread not to tell members where watches are available? Posting photos with no details is as teasing as Rolex advertising with no watches.

I’ve seen they’re display models, that’s disappointing, but the sentiment stands. Please share, but in doing so, please actually share?

I see your point and agree with the reason for this thread. However, when I shared the pics, I didn’t realise they could have been display only pieces. After “properly” reading earlier comments later, I had to check with AD and since they were not available, there was no point in sharing details. So things changed between me sharing pics and now.

AD doesn’t seem keen on receiving more Rolex requests so I am reluctant to say who they are on a public forum.

Cant imagine they’re on their own there!

I know the chances are slim but no harm in asking. Not one page back a member was able to secure a green dialled one which is also wait listed in most places so it’s not outside the realms of possibility!

Can see that they can push that business model for so long but difficult to remain keen about something you have zero chance of getting hold of (at list)!

Is it just me or does that window display look a bit depressing with so few watches in it?

I thinks thats the appeal, you cant have one so you must have one. If the window was full and you could have what you wanted, when you want it then the whole Rolex MO is out of the window.

I myself dont have any issues as there is zero in the modern catalogue that would have me reaching for my wallet.

    indeed so.

I wouldn't mind waiting. I wouldn't mind waiting a while. But I'd want to know how long I would be waiting and I want a commitment that I'll get what I want in the time frame they state.

I understand if I want a new car that I can choose one of the ready built ones that are sat on the forecourt and take it away, or I can order one. When I order one, the dealer tells me how long the wait will be roughly, then confirms a day or so later with a build week. They know how long from factory to dealership so I basically know when I order, when it will be delivered.

There is no reason why Rolex can't do the same, and the pantomime required to make a purchase doesn't appeal to me. If anything it makes the watches less appealing rather than more.

Perhaps if they spent less of their money littering the edges of racetracks with advertising hoardings and spent it on stock control and delivery scheduling the world would be a happier place

I've seen quite a few in 37mm dotted about but not the 40mm. Wouldn't mind trying one on.

Very nice. I too got a call from the AD yesterday but I was soon brought back down to earth when it was just to remind me I needed to collect two links before they closed for lockdown. Would rather have got your call! Congrats.

Think the bottom line is that having "supported" Rolex for many years, I am no longer their target market. Part of me isn't bothered but part of me is a bit miffed when I have bought some of their products which, at the time, they struggled to shift!

I don’t think this is Rolex doing. I think Rolex has chosen a long term strategy decision not to increase prices or ramp up production for the current spike in demand.

ADs are having a field day of course as why would they sell me an OP when they can sell it to someone else who also buys a buttload of other stuff.

Will Rolex lose out on some of their trusted clients? Yes maybe, but we are in such a minority it doesn’t matter. And frankly aren’t we still going to buy submariners once they are out of the Instagram fashion?

Rolex should perhaps remind ADs to also consider long term profitably over short term maximisation as there very well may come a time when they regret pissing off loyal customers, who as they will find out, brings business also after a fad.

TLDR; Rolex thinks long term, ADs not.

Plenty of 36mm gold/steel Datejust in Meadowhall Goldsmiths today.

Took my “new” OP white grape there to have a link removed as I am incapable and didn’t fancy Timpsons. I was amazed that they didn’t charge me a penny even though I didn’t buy it there.
