My first Rolex - Datejust content

I've been after adding a Rolex to my collection for a little while. As much as I'd love a Hulk or a BLNR I'm afraid my funds wouldn't stretch that far so I looked around and over time Datejust's really started to grown on me.

I must admit I wasn't keen on the fluted bezel's or Jubilee straps at first as I thought they might make the watch look a bit too 'blingy'. Anyway to cut a long story short I ended up with a lovely, vintage watch from another forum member (thanks DB9Yeti) and I've been wearing it most days for the last month or so.

At 36mm it's smaller than most watches these days but works perfectly on my sub 7" wrists. The fluted bezel works wonderfully to give the watch a little lift off the wrist and isn't blingy at all.

The dial is superb and looks really different (not sure my photos go anywhere near to capturing it

Although I really like the Jubilee, I've put it on an Oyster (thanks MarcJ) to partly preserve the Jubilee and because I think the Oyster gives it a more casual look.

So if you're in two minds about a DJ, my advice would be to give it a go.

    Thanks
    David

More and more I'm drawn towards vintage DJs and Air Kings. I'm even thinking about cashing in on my 5513 to get a vintage rolex dress watch and some spending money.

That is very nice, good catch. Any pictures of it on the jubilee? Just my personal opinion, I prefer the jubilee on a datejust, but I understand your reason for swapping.

A very nice example of a classic, I bought mine new in 1984 and it's my one true keeper. However, get it back on the Jubilee, it just doesn't look right on the Oyster bracelet.

The perfect Datejust. Can't think why I let it go :(

Glad it's being enjoyed though and look great on that Oyster, Marc always comes up trumps!

Lovely watch. I just got gifted a 1984 bimetal datejust with a gold linen dial as a wedding present from my father in law. It was his bought in 1984. I was a bit sceptical at first as my collection consists of mainly divers, greater than 40mm. However since taking it off the jubilee which I find a bit blingy, and putting it on a leather it hasn't been off my wrist. Never thought about putting an oyster bracelet, but I guess is would need to be a bimetal which would be a few £££

36mm looks spot on, good on the oyster too.

As time goes on I'm drawn more and more towards a DJ and consolidating some of the collection in order to obtain one, though with so many options out there choosing the right dial/bezel/bracelet combo is going to be tricky. That linen dial is a cracker!

    Enjoy :)

Cracking. But you're really missing out not wearing it on the jubilee bracelet.
I have a datejust and a GMT on jubilee and they are amazingly comfortable. Go on, give it a go.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Although i love the Oyster I do agree the Jubilee is the best match so here's one I took just before swapping it out. I know I'll pop it back on at some stage I'm just trying to avoid overly stretching it.

Thanks again for selling it to me. Its being enjoyed and worn regularly. In fact between this and my FF nothing else is getting any wrist time, so much so that if it continues this way I'll look to move a few on as there's no point having watches sat in the box.

Fully agree, great watch and my first new Rolex too.

Your linen dial is very striking.

You're not wrong there. I've already started looking at bi-metals and I've taken quite a fancy to blue Roman dials. They are quite addictive !!
