    Bronze Anyone ?

Just pressed the button on a bronze watch. Been wanting to scratch the itch for a while, so ordered the one below yesterday. So, anyone else have one ?

That looks nice. I don't recognise the maker from the logo, though. What size is it?

It's a Heimdallr Sharkey. Chinese, cheap, better than Seiko, as the OP will shortly tell you.

I scratched my bronze itch with this one...

Patina is developing nicely - which was part of the appeal of the bronze case.

It's a heimdallr Sharkey. 41mm, sapphire crystal, lovely 120 click ceramic bezel, 300m water resistance, NH35 movement, and a superb leather strap. Some collectors don't like Chinese watches, and would rather spend twice as much on an inferior timepiece, but everyone to their own I suppose

Looks great. Now are you going to cover it and egg and stick it in the oven or whatever these Bronze fans do? :)

This is a good question. I am very anal about my watches, and ensure they are cared for and clean. Apparently the joy of a bronze watch is letting it patina. I'm going to give it a go, but can see myself polishing it

My Armida A1 is brass, as opposed the bronze, which I bought because I wanted to enjoy some gentle patination with only a small outlay, and brass was undoubtedly cheaper.

This is pretty much how it arrived 3 1/2 years ago

I have not used any chemicals, eggs or other stuff, just worn it, and the patination looks like this today

I am not shy about wearing it in the workshop, the sea, wherever.
I like the way that the patina is uneven, that the bezel edges remain relatively polished (and much smoother than when it arrived) and that a little verdigris corrosion has started near the crown. I like that the machining grooves are shown up by differential colour, and that the same is true of the bezel numerals, making them easier to read.

The dusty stuff is overspray from painting the garden wall this morning

I like the process, and am enjoying its progress.

I bought this limited edition brass Maranez Layan about three years ago and it’s gradually patinated to what you see here...

It’s my beater and I love it, although I would prefer it to have a matching brass crown rather than S/S.

I got this in October last year. Have wondered about getting a navy NATO but struggle to find one with the right keepers. Looking forward to some patina developing in due course.

I haven't seen this one for a while so it may have patinated a bit more, but I doubt it.

Don't believe me, look and read the reviews. These are very well put together watches, and unlike many of the better known brands their after sales service is very good. I already own a Tuna and a Turtle, and they really are the dogs

Surely you are going to hate a bronze watch then?? The whole point (as I see it) of bronze is for it to patina, either naturally or artificially. If you are going to get anxious if its anything other than pristine then it'll drive you bonkers in no time!
    REALLY great looking watch btw.

Both materials actually look and feel same.

Brass is bit softer and that's all. They both develop same patina, they both have same weight.

And bronze/brass watches are heavy.. believe me. I owned Makara Octopus first gen, I could not believe the heft of the thing.

That would work as well, it might smell a bit, but it might work
I would try the egg first though.
    :-)
I like the patina that bronze develops but I am not a fan of them new
The Anonimo posted is a lovely watch that I would like to try one day.

I'm currently on my third bronze watch. One of the earlier watches I had was a Borealis Oceanaut which was aluminium bronze. Aluminium bronze is actually a harder bronze that is more resistant to patina than a CUSN8 watch. It will still develop a patina but much more slowly. My current watch is CUSN8 but only two days out of the box so still 'virginal' at this stage. The OP's watch looks very nice - I hadn't looked at their products previously.

    Hiya,
It’s from cheapest Nato straps . I think it was £6.00 . It’s elastic material It has brushed silver wear unfortunately but what the hell. The quality is ok. It is a one piece which is what I wanted. The blue one next to it is also available but the fit is crap. I like the colours though. I will order a one piece of these at some point rather than the marine national version which is as I say crap (metal work).

In a nutshell, he took everyone's money and never sent any watches, well very few anyway, I was one of those caught out.

Hello Mart, how are you? Yours must be around the same vintage as mine, since the more recent ones have a matching brass crown. I did contact Maranez to ask if I could fit one of their new crowns to my watch, but apparently they are not interchangeable .

I am good thanks for asking being retired and living in a decent house in a decent part of the world helps with the current situation as to Maranez watches IMO they are just great value and very different from the common high st brands like Rolex and Omega

To one and all just take care.

I had one of these but ended up selling it. Really liked it out of the box, but like the OP I wasn't a fan once it started to patina. Turns out bronze might not be for me.

I'm really curious to see how yours develops over time though, so I'll look out for it on the forum.

    Bronze Anyone ?

    Stefmcd,

Go for it. Don’t touch the marine elastic straps though. They really are a bad design. Not like standard ones.
Just bare in mind that they add 20% at the end in tax . Make it worth your while and get 5. Lastly the one on my bronze is actually a 22mm even though the lugs are 23mm on that watch. They come up good on sizing.

There's no such thing as alloy bronze - all bronze is an alloy. According to their website, it's aluminium bronze which means it will develop a patina although it will be more resistant to do so than other bronzes. https://www.heimdallr.watch/dive-wat...641691116.html

Must admit that these Heimdallr watches are tempting me to scratch my bronze itch! What's nice about these is that they give you lots of options - different dial colours, dial designs, strap options, which is very rare. I like the idea of a bronze watch with a heavy patina, though I've sometimes wondered if I'd actually want to wear it.
