    Sports club sponsorship

    Hi,

So i am involved in a young youth american football club and via a long complex story we are going it alone from the main organisation.

One the tasks we will need to accomplish is attracting some sponsors to try and acquire training equipment, kits etc all the normal stuff a new club needs to get itself off the ground.

As we have a varied membership here i thought i would ask for some advice in the best way to approach this.

Has anyone been through this before , wheres best to start, any suggetions on grants , funding which maybe worth investigating?

Any information, advice or opinion would be greatfully received :)

    Cheers

    Matt

I’ve sponsored a few sports teams and clubs, from school teams to the thrills of both league and non-league football.

At the level you are aiming at, it’s less convincing sponsors of the ‘advertising benefits’ and more on just getting local interest from local firms, who will be seen as supportive from their local audience. In addition, approach the big players in the town - Tesco etc.

Get prices together for the items to sponsor - kit, equipment, etc and seek sponsorship at cost, obviously with branding. One point to note, is contract for them for a year, always give the current sponsor the opportunity to renew for next year and factor in repairs/renewals into the quote.

I would also try and enlist the suppliers too, if not as sponsors, perhaps offering terms on payment - every little helps.

I can’t help on the grants available, but guess there will be some floating around, although imagine there will be few options these days.

    Good luck!

Go into your local McDonald's, while our Franchisees mainly sponsor local football they may well be interested in helping out.

Have sent you a PM with contact details of a friend of mine who specialises in securing govt (probably others too) grants for sports clubs etc.

Hopefully she'll be able to help or point you in the right direction.

From my personal experience contacting local entrepreneurs and firms is always a good idea.
